Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket, usually called SSHL, is a co-educational day and boarding school in Sigtuna. The campus is at Manfred Björkquists allé 8, 193 31 Sigtuna.
The school is about 20 minutes by car from Arlanda Airport and 40 minutes from central Stockholm, according to its location page. It is not a central-Stockholm commute for most families.
Admissions enquiries can be sent to admission@sshl.se or +46 8 592 571 17.
Programmes and qualifications
The Swedish upper-secondary side offers three national programmes:
- Social Science, with an international specialisation
- Natural Science
- Business Management and Economics, in Swedish or through a Swedish–English bilingual route
These lead to Swedish upper-secondary qualifications. They are not IB programmes.
The international side offers MYP4 and MYP5, followed by the two-year IB Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP). MYP5 is the usual preparatory year. A suitably prepared applicant may enter DP or CP directly.
IB teaching is in English and the school describes the pace as high. Applicants coming from a non-English education system may have to take a language test.
Day admission: three different routes
For first-year entry to a Swedish national programme, a day applicant applies through Gymnasieantagningen Storsthlm. SSHL states that this route is for Swedish citizens and that selection depends on grades and available day places.
The published 2027 regional calendar is:
| Stage |
Date |
| Application system opens |
14 January 2027. |
| Initial application closes |
15 February 2027. |
| Preliminary result and reselection open |
13 April 2027. |
| Reselection closes |
12 May 2027. |
| Final admission result |
1 July 2027. |
| Reserve admission passes to schools |
11 August 2027. |
The regional calendar says schools follow the central reserve lists through 31 August. A pupil who wants to transfer into a later Swedish upper-secondary year should contact syv@sshl.se instead.
For IB MYP5, a day applicant who is registered in Sweden also uses Gymnasieantagningen. For MYP4, DP or CP, the family contacts SSHL directly at admission@sshl.se.
SSHL says there is no queue system for IB. The application must meet Swedish-law criteria, and a language test may be required. Families should ask which evidence establishes eligibility before submitting documents.
Boarding admission
Boarding applicants apply directly to SSHL, independently of the regional admissions system. The school accepts applications throughout the year and prefers early applications. Its page allows an application up to the August school start, subject to space.
The initial form is the first step of a two-stage process and is not binding. IB boarders may also be asked to take a language test.
There are three boarding models:
- Weekly boarding: the pupil goes home every weekend, apart from a few compulsory school weekends.
- Traditional boarding: the pupil remains seven days a week but goes home for scheduled weekends and ordinary holidays.
- Full boarding: the pupil may remain for all weekends, except national and school holidays when the boarding provision closes.
These options are not interchangeable. Before accepting, ask for the exact closure calendar, travel expectations and adult responsibility for every period away from school.
Houses and daily support
SSHL has eight boarding houses: four for boys and four for girls. Each accommodates about 25–30 pupils. The residence pages describe boarders aged 14–20.
First-year boarders usually share a room with a pupil of the same age. Pupils in their final upper-secondary years are offered single rooms. House Parents are present around the clock, and teacher-led academic support is available after lessons.
The Student Health team includes special-education teachers and pedagogues, counsellors, a nurse and a careers counsellor. A school psychologist and physician are available monthly.
The public page does not define support capacity, individual charges or which needs may prevent admission. A family needing adjustments should provide current evidence and obtain a written support plan before accepting.
Day-student charges for 2026–27
Swedish-curriculum day pupils pay no tuition. The day-student financial PDF nevertheless states an annual SEK 2,000 sports and extracurricular programme charge.
IB pupils pay the following additional annual tuition whether they are day pupils or boarders:
| IB programme |
Annual fee |
| MYP4 |
SEK 31,000. |
| MYP5, DP or CP |
SEK 39,200. |
An IB examination fee is added in the spring for Year 3 pupils. The public material does not state its amount.
The fee webpage and the day-student PDF conflict on the autumn payment date. The webpage gives 30 June, except 30 September for MYP5 day pupils. The PDF gives 30 September for all day pupils. Both give 30 November for the spring payment.
Day families also pay for uniform, certain activities, damage, false fire alarms, lost textbooks and lost access tags when applicable. The school shop and café accept card or Swish.
Boarding charges for 2026–27
Boarding price depends on both the residence model and the pupil’s citizenship category.
| Category |
Weekly |
Traditional |
Full |
| Swedish or expatriate Swedish pupil |
SEK 361,000 |
SEK 389,000 |
SEK 454,000. |
| Overseas-citizen pupil or GAP year |
SEK 474,000 |
SEK 504,000 |
SEK 570,000. |
To use the expatriate Swedish category, the financial conditions require all three points below:
- The parent or guardian lives permanently overseas for a continuous period of at least six months and normally sleeps there.
- At least one parent or guardian is a Swedish citizen.
- The pupil is not registered in the Swedish population register.
Boarding applicants pay a non-refundable SEK 5,000 application fee when applying. A non-refundable SEK 10,000 starter-kit fee is added to the first invoice. IB tuition is added to the boarding amount.
Boarding fees are invoiced twice. Payment is due by 30 June for autumn and 30 November for spring. Late sums can attract interest and debt collection.
The sibling reduction applies only when more than one child attends the boarding school. It is 5% for child two, 10% for child three, 15% for child four and 20% for child five.
Some extracurricular courses, emergency medical visits, damage, false fire alarms, lost books and lost keys are extra. The financial conditions do not publish a family withdrawal schedule. Ask for the current boarding contract before paying.
Scholarships
SSHL lists several scholarship routes rather than one general award. Its Swedish-foundation scheme can cover part of a boarder’s fee. It requires Swedish citizenship, documented financial need and annual reapplication.
The published deadline for that scheme is 30 April. The page does not state a standard award amount. Other funds have different eligibility, so an overseas family should not assume that aid is available.
SSHL can suit a pupil who wants a Swedish or IB route with a substantial boarding community. A family seeking a tuition-free municipal day school in Märsta should compare Arlandagymnasiet. See also the Sigtuna guide, Sweden guide and boarding guide.
