Arlandagymnasiet is a co-educational municipal upper-secondary school at Vikingavägen 2 in Märsta. It is a day school and has no boarding.

The school belongs to Sigtuna municipality, but it is not Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket. SSHL is a separate day and boarding school in Sigtuna town.

Programmes

Arlandagymnasiet describes three main units: higher-education preparatory programmes, vocational programmes, and introduction and adapted programmes.

Its nine ordinary national programmes are:

  • Economics
  • Natural Science
  • Social Science
  • Technology
  • Child and Recreation
  • Vehicle and Transport
  • Sales and Service
  • Health and Social Care
  • Restaurant and Food

The school says these programmes contain 15 orientations in total. Families should check the page for their chosen programme because subjects, work placements and progression differ.

Aircraft-technician training

The three-year aircraft-technician programme operates at Arlanda Airport with Aircraft Academy of Sweden. It is a nationally recruited specialist route rather than a general aviation option within every programme.

There are two formats. In the apprenticeship format, workplace learning begins in the autumn of Year 2 and continues through Year 3. The school-based format includes at least 15 weeks of workplace learning.

Introduction and adapted programmes

The four introduction programmes are programme-oriented individual choice, vocational introduction, individual alternative and language introduction. These routes support pupils who are not yet eligible for an ordinary national programme.

The adapted upper-secondary school is a separate four-year, voluntary and tuition-free form of education for pupils with intellectual disability. It offers national and individual programmes. Families should discuss eligibility and assessment with the municipality rather than treating it as an ordinary national-programme application.

Admission for Year 1

Applicants to a national programme use Gymnasieantagningen Storsthlm, the regional upper-secondary admissions service. The published 2027 timetable is:

Stage Date
Application opens 14 January 2027.
Initial application closes 15 February 2027.
Preliminary result and reselection open 13 April 2027.
Reselection closes 12 May 2027.
Final admission result 1 July 2027.
Reserve admission passes to schools 11 August 2027.

The regional service manages reserve lists during August. Around the start of term, responsibility passes to the school. Keep telephone and email details current because an unanswered offer may be lost.

For a vocational national programme, the pupil needs passing Year 9 grades in Swedish or Swedish as a second language, English and mathematics, plus at least five other subjects.

For a higher-education preparatory programme, the pupil needs passing grades in the same three core subjects plus at least nine other subjects. Individual programmes can also require particular subjects.

The national and adapted programmes use the regional portal. Vocational introduction also uses that portal. Language introduction and individual alternative use a form sent directly to the school, followed by a mapping interview. The pupil, a guardian or appointed representative, and an interpreter when needed take part.

Sports applications

Nationally approved sports education, or NIU, is available in football and handball. An applicant must complete the relevant sports-federation process and the ordinary application for the correct school programme. Sporting selection does not replace academic eligibility or the regional application.

Local sports options, or LIU, are listed for floorball, ice hockey and e-sports. These use the school’s own forms. Check current deadlines and confirm how the option fits the selected national programme.

Transfers and overseas applicants

A pupil seeking a place in Year 2 or Year 3 should contact the study and careers counsellor for the relevant programme. Availability depends on open places and whether previous studies match the programme.

For applicants with education from another country, population registration and residence status can affect the route. Swedish citizens abroad who intend to move should arrange registration before the final admission decision where possible.

Nordic applicants have specific rights and are exempt from the Swedish-subject prerequisite. Other foreign qualifications may be considered through the independent quota. EU citizens who are not registered in Sweden, diplomatic families and applicants with protection status should contact the regional service or municipality early. The official international-applicant page explains the evidence for each category.

Support

The Student Health team includes nurses, counsellors, special educators, specialist teachers, a psychologist, study and careers counsellors, and pupil coaches. Its published support includes recorded learning material, study-technique help, adjustments to the learning environment, educational assessment and special-pedagogical support.

One school page describes a specialist Social Science route for pupils who need extensive support. It still labels that provision as selectable for 2024–25. Do not assume it is available for 2027 until the school confirms this in writing.

Fees and practical costs

Swedish municipal upper-secondary education is generally tuition-free. There is no application fee, and required learning materials and tools must normally be provided without charge.

This does not mean every family expense is zero. A school can require isolated personal items, and meal arrangements can depend on the pupil’s home municipality. Arlandagymnasiet does not publish one current family-wide schedule for all incidental costs.

Arlandagymnasiet is most relevant to families seeking a Swedish municipal upper-secondary route in Märsta. Families seeking English-medium IB study or boarding should compare SSHL. See also the Sigtuna guide and Sweden guide.
