Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket, or SSHL, and Arlandagymnasiet belong to the same municipality but not the same town or admissions system. SSHL is on Manfred Björkquists allé in Sigtuna. Arlandagymnasiet is on Vikingavägen in Märsta.
Start with three questions: Does the pupil need boarding? Is the target an International Baccalaureate (IB) or a Swedish national programme? Does the pupil qualify for the relevant regional or direct application route?
SSHL: Swedish and IB routes, with boarding
SSHL offers Swedish upper-secondary programmes alongside the IB Middle Years Programme, Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme. Day pupils on a Swedish programme pay no tuition. Every IB pupil pays an additional annual school fee.
For 2026–27, the IB fee is SEK 31,000 for MYP 4 and SEK 39,200 for MYP 5, the Diploma Programme or the Career-related Programme. The school bills the final-year IB examination fee separately.
Boarding costs depend on citizenship and the type of residence. For Swedish and expatriate-Swedish pupils, the 2026–27 annual fee is SEK 361,000 for weekly boarding, SEK 389,000 for traditional boarding and SEK 454,000 for full boarding. For foreign citizens and Gap Year pupils, the corresponding fees are SEK 474,000, SEK 504,000 and SEK 570,000. The IB fee is added to those boarding amounts.
The application route also varies. Day pupils apply to Swedish programmes and IB MYP 5 through the regional upper-secondary system. Day applicants to MYP 4, the Diploma or Career-related Programme contact SSHL Admissions directly. Boarding applications are made directly to SSHL and are accepted throughout the year, subject to criteria and space.
This option suits a pupil who needs residential education or specifically wants one of SSHL’s IB programmes. A day pupil seeking an ordinary Swedish programme should compare the cost and programme choice with municipal schools before choosing SSHL on name alone.
Arlandagymnasiet: public programmes in Märsta
Arlandagymnasiet is Sigtuna municipality’s upper-secondary school in Märsta. It offers nine national programmes, four introduction programmes and an adapted upper-secondary provision. Teaching in the national programmes is primarily in Swedish.
The school’s distinctive vocational option is aircraft technology, delivered through Aircraft Academy of Sweden at Arlanda Airport. A pupil considering that route should verify its separate location, entry requirements and work-based elements rather than assuming every lesson takes place on Vikingavägen.
Applications follow Gymnasieantagningen Storsthlm. For the 2027 intake, the regional application site is scheduled to open on 14 January 2027 and close on 15 February. Preliminary results and the re-selection period begin on 13 April, with changes closing on 12 May. Final results are due on 1 July. These dates apply to the regional application system, not to a direct SSHL boarding application.
Arlandagymnasiet is the stronger fit when a pupil wants a public Swedish programme, lives within a workable journey of Märsta and does not need boarding. It is not an English international school.
The language and qualification decision
An IB route at SSHL can support a future international move, but the pupil still lives in a Swedish-speaking municipality. Ask how much Swedish the child will need for daily life, activities and any later transition.
A national programme at Arlandagymnasiet leads through the Swedish upper-secondary system. Its eligibility and course requirements differ by programme. Families arriving from abroad should ask how overseas grades will be assessed and whether Swedish language preparation is needed.
