European School Luxembourg II is a Type 1 European School, part of the intergovernmental European Schools system, at 6, rue Gaston Thorn, L-8268 Bertrange, west of Luxembourg City. The European Schools directory also uses the location name Mamer. Use the street address when planning a visit.
The school is a day school without boarding, teaching from nursery through the European Baccalaureate. It is worth considering for eligible families seeking a multilingual education, especially those whose language provision is assigned here.
Luxembourg I, on Kirchberg at 23, Boulevard Konrad Adenauer, follows the same admissions rules and qualification pathway. The two schools have different language provision, so location preference alone does not determine placement.
Can your child get a place?
If a parent has worked for a European institution or related body for at least a year (Category I), the child has priority and pays no tuition. Other families (Category III) depend on spare capacity: they are considered only after Categories I and II, priority goes to the least-filled sections, and no class that already has 27 pupils takes another. We found no published Category III waiting list.
Language and address then decide between the two schools. Luxembourg II alone hosts the Czech, Danish, Greek, Croatian, Hungarian, Italian, Romanian, Slovak and Slovenian sections or mother-tongue provision. For German, English and French, new residents — families without a principal residence in or near Luxembourg when they apply — are normally assigned here, as are existing residents in the south-west zone of the map in the joint 2026–27 rules. Our guide to European School admissions explains the categories, the full language table, SWALS and other-national-language rules, and the application timetable.
Applying and visiting
The enrolment page gives 2–27 March 2026 as the application period for new pupils in 2026–27, with replies due by 12 June 2026. Pupils already attending in 2025–26 do not re-enrol. The published school-year start was 2 September 2026.
The page asks for the completed file and annexes by email to the relevant nursery/primary or secondary secretariat, preferably as a PDF named NOM_PRENOM_SECTION LINGUISTIQUE_CLASSE—surname, first name, language section and class—and also by post. The application form permits electronic signatures and requires a signed postal copy if you lack a valid electronic signature. Ask the secretariat whether your digitally signed file also needs a postal copy. An incomplete or unsigned file is not sufficient; incomplete files are returned by email.
These dates have passed, and the reviewed material does not publish a 2027 application window. Contact admissions about late entry or the next cycle. Arrange a visit to the relevant section and test the journey from your proposed home at the expected arrival time. The parents’ association offers another practical contact.
Fees and payments
Category I pupils pay no tuition. For Category III, the Board’s 2026/27 table and the school’s 2026/27 enrolment form give different amounts, for example €8,358.46 against €8,063.46 for secondary. Ask which tariff will appear on your invoice. The admissions guide compares both tables and explains the NATO/NSPA rate and sibling reductions.
Category III parents commit to a non-refundable 25% tuition deposit, due before 26 June for 2026–27, with the balance paid within the school’s specified period. The deposit is part of tuition, not an additional 25% on top.
Category I’s tuition exemption does not cover all school costs: the shared form includes an undertaking to pay additional school costs for that category. Request the current charges for your child’s stage.
Our judgment
For an English-medium International Baccalaureate (IB) route, compare the International School of Luxembourg. St George’s offers a British curriculum, while Vauban follows the French national route. If you prefer a public European School option in the south, compare EIDE, an accredited European School with its own admissions arrangements.
