Prague British International School (PBIS) is a Nord Anglia day school for ages 2–19, formed by the 2018 merger of Prague British School and the English International School of Prague. It offers English-medium education toward IGCSE and the IB Diploma, plus a separate Czech-British primary pathway.

The first decision is the programme and campus, not simply the PBIS name. The school operates in Kamýk, Libuš and Vlastina, with Prokop advertised for 2027. It provides no accommodation or boarding.

Match the campus to the child

  • Kamýk, K Lesu 558/2, Prague 4: Early Years, Primary and Lower Secondary through Year 9, ages 2–14. The largest site has all-weather pitches, a track, adventure play areas and multimedia rooms.
  • Libuš, Brunelova 960/12, Prague 4: Years 10–13, IGCSE then IB. It has a football pitch, fitness and dance areas and an IB learning hub. The school estimates five minutes by car or ten on foot from Kamýk.
  • Vlastina, Vlastina 19, Prague 6: Early Years and Primary. School pages differ between starting ages three and four; confirm the child’s eligibility for this site.
  • Prokop, Řeporyje, Prague 13: announced for 2027, with a stated age range of 3–14. Confirm the planned year groups before relying on a move. A published open-day notice gives 17 September at 11:00, starting at Vlastina; verify the event before travelling.

Campus descriptions include performance, music, science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics spaces, language rooms and Forest School outdoor learning for younger children. The school’s estimated central-Prague drives of 25 minutes to Kamýk and 15 to Vlastina are not commute guarantees. Campuses.

Curriculum and qualifications

Early Years follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS): Pre-Nursery at 2–3, Nursery at 3–4 and Reception at 4–5. Reception requires the fourth birthday before 1 September; later birthdays remain in Nursery. Pre-Nursery and Nursery run 08:05–15:00, with optional Happy Hour care to 16:00.

Primary, ages 5–11, combines the English National Curriculum and International Primary Curriculum (IPC), with English, mathematics and thematic science, humanities, arts and design. Breakfast club runs 07:30–08:15. Uniforms are required; admissions supplies shop information after enrolment.

Česko Britská Základní Škola (ČBZŠ) is a separate bilingual primary option for Czech nationals, following the Czech curriculum plus IPC, with daily English support. Entry starts at Year 1, described by the school as equivalent to a Czech preparatory class. Czech families may alternatively choose English Primary. An after-school Czech club serves non-Czech children. ČBZŠ has its own fees; it is not a Czech secondary-school qualification route.

Years 7–9 at Kamýk are described as an IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) candidate provision. Candidacy is not authorisation or a guarantee of authorisation. The eight subject groups cover languages and literature, language acquisition, societies, sciences, mathematics, physical education, design and arts. Confirm status for the intended intake.

Years 10–11 at Libuš lead to Cambridge IGCSE, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education. Year 12 requires passed IGCSE or equivalent.

Years 12–13 offer the IB Diploma: six subjects, normally three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, an extended research essay and creativity, activity and service (CAS). The school cites minimum totals of 24 points, 12 at Higher Level and nine at Standard Level, with up to three core points. These numbers are not the complete award rules.

English, learning support and admission

English as an Additional Language (EAL) and learning support are included in tuition. The school describes English entrance assessment for pupils, followed by mainstream placement or individual, small-group and classroom support. Full EAL normally lasts up to one year, supporting access across the curriculum, with assessments in December, March and June. Plans are reviewed termly and written reports issued three times a year. Partial support covers language skills, study, homework and examinations.

Upper-secondary pupils must already be English-proficient. Do not assume beginner support makes Year 10 entry possible. French, German and Spanish are offered in Years 7–9 once English is secure. Ask separately about home-language provision and any support needs requiring specialist input. EAL.

Applications are accepted year-round, including midyear, subject to assessment and space. A response is promised within 24 hours excluding weekends after forms and documents arrive; that is not an admission guarantee. The process may include a trial day, interview and tests before contract.

From Year 7, non-native English speakers have language assessment; native speakers have mathematics and literature assessment. Placement normally follows UK ages, with Year 1 at five before the school year, adjusted where prior school reports support another placement.

Upload the child’s passport and photograph, a parent passport, latest reports in English, vaccination record and health-insurance card. August entrants have a welcome afternoon in the last holiday week and access to parent platforms. Entry requirements.

The FAQ reports an Early Years average of 12 pupils, a Primary maximum of 22 and a Secondary average of 18. ČBZŠ gives no numerical class-size limit in the cited information.

Transport and scholarships

Home-school-home buses serve the three current sites from age four, subject to demand. The school describes around 16 routes using five minibuses and local providers. Free shuttles from age five serve Kamýk and Libuš from Kačerov, Smíchovské nádraží, Prague 6 including Vlastina and Střešovice, Vinohrady and Průhonice. Five dedicated city buses are described. The referenced shuttle map is dated 2025; confirm current stops.

Free after-club buses run from Kamýk and Libuš toward Kačerov, Smíchov, Průhonice and Vinohrady. Kindergarten transport needs individual agreement. Contact transport@pbis.cz; a free shuttle is not the same service as paid home collection.

The Prague 12 scholarship cycle for September 2026 offered one Year 10 place, covering 90% of fees for four years through IGCSE and IB. Its deadline was 16 January 2026. Conditions included Czech or EU citizenship, three years’ Prague 12 residence for both child and guardian, and strong English. Current pupils and those who left within three years were excluded. The fee page also mentions a Prague 6 scheme, whose full conditions are not established here. Confirm a new cycle before budgeting support. Scholarships.

Our view

Choose PBIS if its English-medium IGCSE-to-IB route or Czech-British primary option fits the child and the campus transitions work for the family. The school reports pupils from more than 60 countries and teachers with UK qualified status or equivalent; individual programme and support decisions still matter more than scale.

The 2026 IB results report 97% passing, average 34 points, 24% at 37 or above and 42% at 35 or above. The reported subject average is 5.3 across 25 subjects. These are cohort results, not a personal forecast. The reported bilingual-diploma outcome for Czech pupils is likewise not an entry or award rule.

For Czech university plans, discuss recognition of the actual IB subjects and diploma; ČBZŠ primary does not by itself establish a Czech maturita pathway. Before accepting, confirm the site, language readiness, support, MYP status and complete fee quotation.
