Nový PORG is a private Czech day school in Prague 4. It combines primary education with selective four- and eight-year gymnázium routes. English is important throughout, but Czech remains central to teaching, admissions and qualifications.
This distinction matters for internationally mobile families. Nový PORG can offer an IB route without leaving the Czech school system. It is not a substitute for an English-medium school when a child cannot yet study or sit entrance tests in Czech.
The education routes are not interchangeable
The school has a Czech primary and lower-secondary section. Its separate eight-year gymnázium admits pupils after Year 5, while the four-year gymnázium begins after Year 9.
Nový PORG says its gymnázium plan combines the Czech national framework with Cambridge International programme elements from prima to sexta. The school does not present that phase as a separate Cambridge leaving qualification.
In the final two years, students can study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The school overview says students may choose the Czech maturita, the IB Diploma or both.
The external IB admissions page is narrower. It says every Nový PORG student must take Czech language and literature and the state Czech examination. An external candidate should ask the school to reconcile these statements for the intended cohort.
Choose Nový PORG when continued Czech education and strong English are both priorities. Compare the International School of Prague if the child needs an English-medium international pathway. The English College in Prague is another comparison for older students.
Admissions depend on the entry point
The published routes for 2027/28 are materially different:
| Entry route |
Published places or availability |
Assessment and current dates |
| Year 1 primary |
65 places |
Apply by 2 December 2026; enrolment on 16 or 17 January 2027. |
| Lower-secondary transfer |
Only if a place becomes available |
Register through the school’s transfer form. |
| Eight-year gymnázium, prima |
52 places |
Cermat Czech and mathematics; school aptitude and English tests; school test 8 April; state tests 14 and 15 April 2027. |
| Four-year gymnázium, Year 1 |
26 places |
Cermat Czech and mathematics; school aptitude test; school test 8 April; state tests 12 and 13 April 2027. |
| External entry to the two-year IB Diploma |
Limited number |
Apply by 11 April 2027; tests in English, Czech, mathematics and a second foreign language, followed by an interview. |
External IB applicants need strong previous results and English at C1–C2 level. The school does not publish an intensive language-support route for candidates below that standard.
Why PORG’s 19 February date differs from the national deadline
The live gymnázium pages tell families to apply by 19 February 2027. The August 2026 timetable from the Czech Ministry of Education gives a statutory first-round window of 1–22 February 2027.
The national end date moves from Saturday 20 February to the next working day. PORG’s 19 February date is therefore a practical school-specific instruction or precaution, not the national statutory deadline. A family choosing PORG should still submit by 19 February if possible.
The ministry also confirms the national test dates. Four-year applicants sit on 12 and 13 April 2027. Applicants to six- and eight-year programmes sit on 14 and 15 April.
Support and daily life
The gymnázium counselling centre offers short-term psychological or therapeutic support. Its stated remit also includes special educational needs, study difficulties, relationship concerns, risk prevention and university or career guidance.
That is a useful in-school service, but it does not establish that every long-term or specialist need can be met. Ask who would deliver the child’s adjustments and whether Czech or English support is available in each subject.
The campus is at Pod Krčským lesem in Prague 4. The school lists bus services from Prague 5 and Prague 6, but it does not publish current routes or prices on the pages reviewed. Check the stop before choosing housing.
Nový PORG is a day school and provides no boarding. Open Gate is the relevant PORG-network comparison if boarding is essential, although it is in Babice rather than Prague.
Fees and the missing contract terms
The school publishes these annual fees for 2026/27:
| Route |
Annual tuition |
What the page says is included |
| Primary and lower-secondary school |
216,100 Kč |
Teaching aids, textbooks and leisure activities. |
| Four- or eight-year gymnázium |
199,100 Kč |
Teaching aids, textbooks and leisure activities. |
| External transfer into the IB route |
330,200 Kč |
Teaching aids, textbooks and leisure activities. |
The 330,200 Kč figure is specifically for students transferring externally into the IB route in 2026/27. It should not be presented as the universal fee for every continuing PORG student who later studies the IB.
Meals are separate. The 2026/27 canteen sheet lists lunch at 47 Kč for Years 1–4, 50 Kč for Years 5–9 and prima–kvarta, and 54 Kč for older gymnázium pupils. Snacks and salads carry additional charges.
PORG describes a scholarship fund for talented students whose families cannot pay full tuition. It does not publish an award percentage or an automatic eligibility formula.
The public fee pages do not state a deposit, instalment calendar, notice period or refund liability. Request the study contract and fee schedule before accepting a place, especially if an employer or relocation date could change.
Our view
It is a harder fit for a recent arrival who needs English-medium teaching immediately. The entrance tests, Czech curriculum and external IB conditions make language readiness an admissions issue, not simply a support question.
