PORG Brno: Czech schooling, advanced English and an eight-year gymnázium

PORG Brno is a Czech day school with a bilingual preschool, primary education and an eight-year gymnázium. English grows in importance through the school, and the gymnázium combines Czech requirements with Cambridge programme elements and the IB Diploma. Families must match the child's entry point to both the admissions process and the correct Brno campus.

PORG Brno is a private Czech day school operating across several Brno sites. It offers a bilingual preschool, primary and lower-secondary education, and an eight-year gymnázium. English is extensive, but this remains a Czech educational route.

That makes the school attractive to a child who can continue in Czech while developing advanced English. It is less suitable for a new arrival who needs every core subject taught in English from the outset.

Programme and qualifications

The preschool teaches children aged three to six in Czech and English. The primary section aims for English at B1 level by the end of Year 5. The lower-secondary target is B2–C1, with a second foreign language added.

The eight-year gymnázium begins with prima after Czech Year 5. PORG says its plan combines the Czech gymnázium framework with Cambridge International programme elements from prima to sexta. That wording does not describe a separate Cambridge leaving certificate.

The final two years include the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The school also prepares students for the Czech maturita. Families should ask which qualification combination is available to their child’s cohort and which subjects remain compulsory in Czech.

The public 2027/28 admissions material describes entry to prima. It does not advertise a separate direct-admission route into the two IB years. An older applicant should ask whether a transfer place exists before planning around the IB.

Admissions by entry point

Entry route Published places Current process
Preschool, 2027/28 29 Apply by 28 February 2027; enrolment on 20 March; a medical record is required.
Year 1 primary, 2027/28 66 across three classes Apply by 9 December 2026; enrolment on 16 or 17 January 2027.
Year 6, 2027/28 26 Apply through the school route for the new Year 6 class.
Higher-year transfer Depends on a vacancy Register with the school and wait for an available place.
Eight-year gymnázium, prima, 2027/28 26 Cermat Czech and mathematics; school aptitude and English tests; school test 8 April; state tests 14 and 15 April 2027.

The gymnázium entrance process is not an English-only assessment. Czech literacy and mathematics matter in the national tests, while the school adds general aptitude and English.

The 19 February instruction and the 22 February national deadline

PORG Brno’s live page tells applicants to submit by 19 February 2027. The Czech Ministry of Education’s August 2026 timetable gives a statutory first-round window of 1–22 February 2027.

The national end date moves from Saturday 20 February to the next working day. The school’s 19 February date is therefore a practical earlier instruction or precaution, not the national statutory deadline. Follow PORG’s earlier date if possible.

The ministry confirms 14 and 15 April 2027 for the national tests used by six- and eight-year programmes. PORG schedules its own aptitude and English tests for 8 April at 14:00.

Three sites need careful checking

The contact page lists a primary site in the ZET.office building at Lazaretní 925/9 in Nová Zbrojovka. It also lists the Mendlovo náměstí campus and the preschool at Voroněžská 2566.

There is a current inconsistency. The general overview associates the first stage with Nová Zbrojovka, but the 2027/28 Year 1 page places all three new classes at Mendlovo náměstí. Obtain the child’s campus in writing before choosing a commute.

PORG Brno has no boarding. Compare the International School of Brno if the family needs an English-medium international curriculum. Compare Nový PORG only if Prague is genuinely an option.

Student support

The primary support team includes a school psychologist, educational counsellor and prevention specialist. The gymnázium lists the same core functions and offers individual meetings.

These services are useful, but the public pages do not define staffing hours, therapy scope or provision for every disability. Ask the school to assess the child’s documented needs before accepting a place.

The pages also do not describe an intensive Czech-acquisition programme for pupils who arrive without Czech. That omission is important because Czech is part of both the curriculum and selective admissions.

Fees and additional costs

Published annual tuition for 2026/27 is:

Section Annual tuition Published inclusions or exclusions
Bilingual preschool 168,000 Kč Meals and activities such as swimming, skiing and skating are excluded.
Primary and lower-secondary school 150,500 Kč Teaching aids, textbooks and leisure activities are included.
Eight-year gymnázium 143,400 Kč Teaching aids, textbooks and leisure activities are included.

The preschool gives a 10% sibling discount when siblings are educated at PORG Brno. The school also describes a scholarship fund for gifted pupils whose families cannot pay full gymnázium tuition. It publishes no fixed award percentage.

Meals are additional. The reviewed Mendlovo náměstí meal-registration document explains enrolment in the canteen service but gives no current meal price.

Our view

PORG Brno is a strong fit for a Czech-speaking child who wants sustained English and a selective route towards Czech and international qualifications. It also offers continuity from preschool or primary school into secondary education.
