PORG Brno is the stronger starting point for a family seeking Czech schooling with substantial English teaching. International School of Brno, or ISB, is the relevant comparison for English-medium education leading to the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
Both are private day schools. They are not the whole local market: a municipal Czech-language school may be the better long-term choice for a family settling in Brno. The Czech Republic guide explains that wider context.
Similar ages, different qualifications
PORG has a kindergarten, a nine-year basic school and an eight-year gymnázium. The gymnázium is an academically selective secondary route entered after the fifth year of basic school; its first year is called prima. It leads to the Czech maturita, not an IB Diploma in Brno.
Do not infer PORG Brno’s programme from another PORG campus in Prague. Ask what level of Czech a newcomer needs and how English is used in the intended year.
ISB serves children from age three through Year 13. Its IB authorisations cover the Primary Years Programme and Diploma Programme, not a full Middle Years Programme. The school names Cambridge IGCSE in its secondary pathway, before the Diploma in Years 12–13. Check the current subjects and examinations for a teenager transferring midway.
PORG already publishes its 2027–28 entry process
For Grade 1 entry, PORG advertises 66 places across three classes, with applications due by 9 December 2026. Enrolment assessments take place on 16 or 17 January 2027.
For gymnázium prima, the school advertises 26 places and a 19 February 2027 application deadline. Entry combines national Czech and mathematics tests with the school’s English and aptitude assessment. A good level of English does not remove the Czech-language requirement.
There is a date discrepancy to resolve. The ministry’s 2027 timetable sets the national application deadline at 22 February, allowing for the weekend. Ask PORG what its earlier 19 February date covers before submitting the school and national applications.
ISB considers applications subject to places and assessment. Ask about the proposed year group, English support and any gaps between the child’s present curriculum and ISB’s.
Compare the appropriate fee bands
PORG’s published 2026–27 annual tuition is CZK 150,500 for basic school and CZK 143,400 for gymnázium. Those are not yet 2027–28 quotations.
ISB’s 2026–27 schedule charges CZK 373,000 annually for primary Years 1–6. The Diploma years cost CZK 534,000 annually, excluding IB examination fees. New pupils also pay a non-refundable CZK 26,000 registration fee.
English-language support costs CZK 4,500 monthly when required. It can be compulsory and may be needed for at least six months. Ask for the assessment outcome and total expected cost before signing.
Confirm the campus for the entry cohort
PORG uses several Brno sites. Its 2027–28 Grade 1 notice specifies Mendlovo náměstí; do not assume every age group uses that address rather than the Nová Zbrojovka site. ISB is on Čejkovická in Vinohrady.
For siblings, check each child’s building and finish time before choosing housing. The Brno hub links both profiles for the fuller admissions and fee details.
Friendly orientation, not formal admissions advice. Always confirm dates with the school.
