Lycée Michel Lucius, also called Lycée | International School Michel Lucius, is a state-funded day school in Luxembourg City. Its English-medium international stream offers primary education followed by Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A-Levels. The lycée also has a separate Luxembourg general-secondary stream. It has no boarding.

Curriculum and language expectations
The international stream teaches in English. Its secondary pathway leads through Cambridge IGCSE, subject-based secondary qualifications, to AS and A-Levels, advanced subject qualifications. This is not an IB Diploma or European Baccalaureate route. The national stream instead leads toward the Luxembourg Diplôme de fin d’études secondaires.
The international FAQ was last updated in April 2023 and draws on a 2017 interview. It describes a route suited to some newcomers who do not yet know the languages of Luxembourg’s national system, or families seeking internationally recognised qualifications taught in English. It also warns that French, German and Luxembourgish are not taught to the same extent as in the national system. Confirm current provision rather than treating the older FAQ as a new handbook.
The FAQ describes English immersion with English as an Additional Language (EAL) support for selected pupils. Older applicants, particularly for A-Level study, undergo language testing. Entry part-way through an IGCSE or A-Level course is described as more difficult.
Its language sequence is:
- Luxembourgish from Year 1, one hour weekly.
- French or German from Year 3 to the end of primary, with the other introduced in secondary.
- At IGCSE, at least one of French or German.
- At A-Level, languages are optional.
International admissions for 2026–27
Applications for both international primary and secondary closed on 15 March 2026, with decisions scheduled for mid-May. These published dates do not establish a 2027 application window or a late-entry procedure.
The 2026 instructions allow a previous application to be reactivated by email to admissions@lml.lu, supplying the child’s name, requested year for September 2026, updated documents and changes to school, contacts or special educational needs (SEN).
New applications require:
- A passport or identity card.
- For residents, a certificat de résidence élargi, an extended residence certificate.
- School reports for the last three years in secondary, or the last three years if available in primary.
- Documentation of special educational needs, where applicable.
Documents must be in English, German or French, with translations for other languages. They must be PDF files; phone photographs are not accepted.
Admission is by application only. The older FAQ describes unusually high demand and an admissions process under review with other public international schools. It says the length of the family’s stay in Luxembourg is relevant and describes cooperation with other schools when a class is full, naming Differdange’s school as EIDD, now listed here as EIDE. This is not a guaranteed alternative place.
The national 6G–1G general-secondary stream has a separate procedure. Its 2026–27 page lists 16, 17 and 20 July, subject to confirmation. Those dates do not apply to the international application.
Transport, care and costs
The school is state-funded. The cited international admissions pages do not list a registration fee; ask about any remaining charges directly.
The dated FAQ describes free secondary school buses from communes across the country, including the south, and free after-school clubs. Both sites have canteens, but the cited information does not give meal prices.
Primary transport is arranged through Daycare Arcus. The FAQ gives primary daycare hours of 07:00–19:00, without establishing the shuttle or care price here. Confirm current routes, hours, places and charges with the provider.
Our view
The Athénée de Luxembourg offers a different public IB route; International School of Luxembourg and St George’s Luxembourg are private alternatives with their own curricula and fees.
