Danube International School Vienna, or DISV, is a co-educational day school at Josef Gall-Gasse 2 in Vienna’s second district. English is the teaching language.

The school offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes. It therefore provides an IB pathway from the early years through secondary graduation.

DISV accepts applications from different backgrounds. Its admissions page gives priority to families connected with international organisations and diplomatic missions.

Who it suits

DISV is a strong fit for a family seeking an English-medium IB education within central Vienna. The Leopoldstadt location can make the journey more practical than campuses farther from the inner districts.

Priority for international-organisation and diplomatic families is relevant when places are limited. A family without that connection can still apply, but should not assume equal timing or a particular grade vacancy.

For other international options, use the Vienna schools guide. Compare the daily journey, admissions priority, support costs and qualification route.

Programme by age

The school describes its stages as follows:

Stage Published ages
Early Years 3-5
IB Primary Years Programme 5-11
IB Middle Years Programme 11-16
IB Diploma Programme 16-19

The age bands overlap at transition points, so placement depends on the child’s record and the school’s decision. Ask which grade and IB stage the offer covers.

After-school activities were included in the 2025-26 tuition schedule. English Language Development and learning support had separate charges, so establish likely support before comparing headline tuition.

Admissions

The admissions process is individual and the school does not publish one general closing date. Begin with an enquiry and ask about the child’s proposed grade, assessment and current space.

Families linked to the UN, OSCE, an embassy or another international organisation should ask their employer about any fee-payment arrangement. The school directs those families back to their organisation for details.

An admissions priority is not a place guarantee. Obtain the offer, grade placement, support plan and full current fee schedule before making a housing decision.

Day school with external boarding options

DISV does not operate its own boarding house. Its 2025-26 fee schedule mentioned possible places at three independent boarding institutions in Vienna.

The historical estimate was EUR 700-1,000 per month, including supervision and meals. The school offered to help families contact those providers.

Treat boarding as a separate contract. Ask each provider about current availability, travel to Josef Gall-Gasse, safeguarding, weekend supervision, deposits and notice terms.

The published fee schedule is historical

When this profile was researched, the last complete downloadable schedule was for 2025-26. The figures below explain the structure of that year’s bill, not the price of a 2026-27 place.

New-pupil charges in 2025-26

Charge Amount
Application EUR 300
Enrolment EUR 4,500
Non-refundable capital charge EUR 2,800
Refundable security deposit EUR 365

The capital charge applied regardless of the pupil’s entry or leaving date. The schedule described the security deposit as refundable, but families should use the current contract for repayment conditions.

Annual tuition in 2025-26

Grade Annual tuition
Early Years Units 1-2 EUR 18,226
Foundation and Grade 1 EUR 26,256
Grades 2-3 EUR 26,660
Grade 4 EUR 26,694
Grade 5 EUR 26,806
Grades 6-10 EUR 31,218
Grade 11 EUR 33,324
Grade 12 EUR 33,562

That schedule required two equal instalments, due 15 July and 1 December 2025. It offered a 2% reduction for full-year payment by 15 May 2025.

These dates have passed. Do not transfer either the amounts or the early-payment reduction into a current budget without a new schedule.

Included items in 2025-26

Tuition included classroom teaching, IB Diploma examinations, MYP moderation, CAT and ISA assessments, loan books, yearbook and photographs. A new pupil also received one physical-education kit.

MYP moderation is an external check on assessment standards in the Middle Years Programme. CAT and ISA are assessment programmes used to evaluate pupils’ abilities or attainment.

The schedule included whole-grade overnight trips for Grades 2-10, day trips, swimming and ice-skating costs, and the standard after-school activity programme. Certain specialist trips and tournaments were billed separately.

Additional support charges in 2025-26

Support Published charge
English Language Development EUR 1,605 per semester
Learning Support A EUR 1,605 per semester
Learning Support B EUR 3,210 per semester
Extended Support EUR 8,032
Comprehensive Support EUR 22,498

The schedule also invited, but did not make compulsory, a EUR 50 family contribution to the PADIS parents’ association. Late payments incurred 1% per month.

For illustration, the 2025-26 tuition and four joining charges totalled EUR 39,183 for a new Grade 6 pupil. This calculation excludes support, boarding, parent-association contributions and separately billed trips.

That total includes the EUR 365 refundable security deposit. It shows funding needed for the listed items, not entirely permanent charges.

Use that calculation only to understand the bill’s structure. Ask the school for every current amount and for the payment, refund and withdrawal terms attached to the child’s actual offer.

A practical verdict

Choose DISV if the family wants all three IB programmes in an inner-city setting and can manage its admissions priority and separate support charges. It is a day school, even when it helps locate external boarding.

Before accepting, obtain the current fee schedule and written confirmation of grade placement, support and any employer arrangement. The public 2025-26 figures are useful history, not a current quotation.
