Choosing an international school in Gdańsk

The main decision is not simply whether a school teaches in English. BISG leads to the IB Diploma; GFO’s International School of Gdańsk is developing an on-site secondary pathway towards A levels. Your child’s year group and the school’s actual campus are essential checks.

Match the programme to the next move

British International School Gdańsk, or BISG, combines British education with Polish curriculum requirements. It offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma in its final two years. It is the more direct comparison for a teenager who needs an established IB Diploma option. Ask which subjects and levels would fit the child’s intended university course.

International School of Gdańsk belongs to Gdańska Fundacja Oświatowa, the GFO education foundation. Its elementary school, EISG, uses the IB Primary Years Programme in Grades 1–5 alongside the Polish core curriculum. Grades 6–8 use Pearson International Lower Secondary. That is not the IB Middle Years Programme.

GFO’s high school, HISG, is beginning its first on-site Grade 9 cohort in 2026–27. Its planned four-year pathway is IGCSE study in Grades 9–10 followed by A levels in Grades 11–12. A description of that complete pathway does not confirm that every upper year is already operating. An older applicant should obtain written confirmation that the required year and subjects are available.

For a younger child, compare classroom language, Polish provision and learning support before focusing on the final diploma. Ask how much Polish is required at entry and what happens when a pupil needs extra English.

Compare annual costs on the same basis

BISG’s 2026–27 fees are paid in ten monthly instalments, September to June. Tuition runs from PLN 2,900 a month for nursery and reception to PLN 4,500 for the IB years. Multiplying by ten gives a calculated annual tuition range of PLN 29,000–45,000. Registration, resources and examination charges must be checked separately.

The EISG fee table covers Grades 1–8 with one shared tuition figure. It is PLN 3,290 a month with the punctual-payment discount, or PLN 3,463 without it, across ten payments. The calculated annual totals are therefore PLN 32,900 or PLN 34,630. Grades 6–8 do have published tuition; the table’s merged cell is easy to misread.

EISG lists a PLN 2,000 organisational fee. Resource charges differ: PLN 550 for Grades 1–5 and PLN 200 for Grades 6–8. The much lower homeschooling prices elsewhere in the table are not ordinary on-campus tuition.

HISG’s offer for its first 2026–27 Grade 9 cohort gives discounted monthly tuition of PLN 3,290 and a PLN 1,000 organisational fee. It promises the elementary-school rate through that cohort’s four years. Ask whether later increases in the elementary rate would also apply; do not assume the quoted amount is frozen.

Check the address for the year of entry

BISG operates across several addresses. Get the campus assigned to each child’s age group before testing the journey from Gdańsk, Sopot or Gdynia. Siblings may not have the same destination.

GFO currently lists Biała 1, but has announced a move to Śluza 3 in 2027. The announcement covers Grade 0, elementary and high school. It does not specify an exact move-in date. Ask which address applies to the proposed start date and whether siblings would move together.

A useful first enquiry includes the child’s age, present curriculum and languages, desired start date and support needs. Request confirmation of the year group, campus and full first-year cost before committing to accommodation.
