Lycée Français Saint Louis de Stockholm (LFSL) is a French-curriculum day school on Stora Essingen. It belongs to the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) network and runs from förskola to Terminale. Preschool has a separate admissions process, so a place there does not guarantee admission to the school later.
LFSL makes most sense for a family that values continuity with France or another AEFE school. It is a less natural fit for a child who needs an English-first classroom or who is only beginning French after primary school.
What pupils study
The main programme follows the French national curriculum. Pupils take the Diplôme national du brevet (DNB) at the end of 3e and can continue toward the French general Baccalaureate.
The current lycée programme lists three routes:
- the standard French general Baccalaureate;
- the Baccalauréat Français International (BFI); and
- a combined Baccalaureate and Swedish Gymnasieexamen route for pupils in the Swedish international section.
BFI is not the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. It is an international form of the French Baccalaureate. LFSL’s version is trilingual in French, Swedish and English. Its additional teaching includes history-geography partly in Swedish, cultural and language study in English, and a Swedish-language “knowledge of the world” course.
Some LFSL pages still use OIB, the former name Option internationale du baccalauréat. The school’s BFI explanation dates the change to pupils entering Première from 2022, with the first BFI examination session in 2024. Ask which current lycée route applies to the child, rather than whether the school offers “Swedish OIB.”
Swedish begins from CP, while English is taught from 6e to Terminale. German and Spanish are offered later as additional languages. French remains the foundation of the programme.
Admissions and French readiness
LFSL says that good knowledge of French is essential from CP, the first year of French elementary school, normally age six. Applicants not coming from the French system must take a level assessment. Ask what language and curriculum knowledge will be assessed for the relevant year.
Primary admissions give priority to mobile families already in the French system, siblings, and children applying to CP from LFSL’s preschool. Waiting-list time is also a consideration. Lycée admission chiefly concerns pupils already following the French system, including Swedish families who have completed their schooling in it.
The 2026–27 enrolment campaign is marked closed on the admissions page, checked on 4 September 2026. Ask admissions directly about a late vacancy. A place becomes effective when the family pays the registration fee and accepts the financial regulations.
Preschool applications go through the City of Stockholm, not the main school application. The published process requires the child’s Swedish personal identity number and uses electronic identification or a paper form. Families not yet registered in Sweden should contact the city. Places depend on capacity, with sibling priority followed by queue date. The preschool and school can therefore give siblings different admission outcomes.
The main address is Essingestråket 24, 112 66 Stockholm. Collège classes are in the main building. Lycée classes are mainly in an annex a few minutes away on foot, although pupils return to the main building for science laboratories.
Published collège and lycée hours can run from 08:00 to 18:20, depending on the timetable. Ask for a sample schedule for the child’s year rather than assuming every day ends at the same time.
LFSL has no boarding. Comparisons with Stockholm International School and the British International School of Stockholm should start with teaching language and qualification. Those are primarily English-medium alternatives, not interchangeable versions of the French programme.
Fees: the lower rate has several conditions
The 2026–27 fee page gives these annual rates for pupils with a valid personnummer who are registered in Sweden and receive municipal funding through the school:
| Level |
Annual fee |
| CP–CM2 |
14,550 SEK |
| 6e–3e |
16,020 SEK |
| 2nde–Terminale |
18,210 SEK |
A personnummer alone does not guarantee the subsidised rate. Coordination numbers, temporary numbers and unapproved population-registration applications do not meet the stated requirement.
The full fee is 157,590 SEK. It applies at any level if LFSL lacks a municipal-funding guarantee when offering the place. Reimbursement may follow if funding arrives later. The school also applies the full fee if the pupil never obtains a personal identity number.
LFSL separately states that the full fee applies to lycée pupils whose parents are not EU, EEA or Swiss citizens. Ask for written confirmation of the family’s fee category before accepting.
The registration fee is 1,890 SEK. Tuition is billed twice yearly. Late starts and early departures are charged at one tenth of the annual fee per month started, plus any unobserved notice period.
From CP, sibling discounts are 15% for the third enrolled child, 20% for the fourth and 25% thereafter. Preschool and after-school care instead use Stockholm’s income-based maximum-fee system.
Our take
Look elsewhere first if the child needs an English-medium transition or if the risk of full fees makes the move unworkable. Before accepting, confirm the child’s exact senior qualification route and whether municipal funding is secured. Those answers matter more than a generic description of the school as “international.”
The Stockholm guide compares local routes. The Sweden guide explains the wider system.
