BBIS Berlin Brandenburg International School is a coeducational day and boarding school at Schopfheimer Allee 10, 14532 Kleinmachnow, in Brandenburg southwest of Berlin. It serves day pupils from age three through Grade 12 and boarders in Grades 9–12. Families commuting from Berlin or Potsdam should test the journey at the time they would actually travel, including in winter.
Learning and school status
Teaching is in English. After Early Education, the International Baccalaureate (IB) sequence is the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in Grades 1–5, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in Grades 6–10 and the Diploma Programme in Grades 11–12.
BBIS lists its German legal status as genehmigte Ersatz- und Ganztagsschule for Grades 1–10 and anerkannte Ergänzungsschule for Grades 11–12. These are categories of private-school approval, distinct from the IB programmes. If a transfer into the German system or later study in Germany is possible, ask how the relevant stage and qualifications will be recognised for your child’s intended route.
The school welcomes applications from all nationalities, cultures, faiths and abilities throughout the school year, subject to space. That statement is not a guarantee of a place or of a particular level of learning support; discuss your child’s needs individually.
Campus and boarding
The campus has five buildings. BBIS describes itself as Germany’s first English-language boarding school and reports around 70 boarders in Grades 9–12. Its boarding page names Steven Crossley as Head of Boarding and says he lives on site with his family.
Private tours are available. The free Stay & Play sessions for prospective Grade 1 pupils have limited places. Families further away can arrange virtual conversations with school principals, boarding staff and admissions. For boarders, ask about evening and weekend supervision as well as the school day.
Applying
Applications are online and may be submitted at any time. The school application fee is €100, credited when a contract is concluded; individual waivers may be requested. A boarding application carries a separate, non-refundable €100 fee. Assessment may include mathematics, German and English.
An offer is accompanied by a school contract, a registration-fee invoice and, where applicable, a boarding contract. The family must sign and pay the registration fee within three weeks. Applications for fee reductions are handled separately by the Director’s Office, not admissions.
Annual tuition, 2026–27
The school fee schedule lists annual tuition below. Grades 1–10 show maximum fees; the published annual minimum is €175, subject to the reduction programme, not an automatic rate for every family. Early Education figures already deduct the standard local services from the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark.

Grade 12 tuition excludes examination fees charged by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).
The one-time registration fee is €7,500 for Early Education and Grades 11–12. In Grades 1–10, it is up to €7,500 and may be reduced. Under the reduction rules, the minimum registration fee does not apply to income up to and including €30,000; above that threshold the reduction table applies. This is an initial charge, not another annual tuition fee.
Allow separately for a refundable €300 book deposit; approximately €30–50 for PE clothing; a calculator from Grade 9 at approximately €150; extracurricular activities at €250–360 per pupil, activity and season; an annual trip at approximately €500–2,000; the annual bus fee from €2,236.30; and lunches at €6.20–7.20 each. The school application fee described above should not be counted a second time.
Tuition is payable 60% on 1 August and 40% on 1 January of the following year. Registration fees and deposits fall due on receipt of the signed contracts.
Who can apply for a fee reduction?
The School Fee Reduction Programme covers tuition and registration in Grades 1–10 only. It is for individual, self-paying applicants. The guardian’s principal residence must be in Germany, with proof of registration, and annual positive gross income must be below €100,000. Assets are also considered; income alone does not establish an entitlement.
For applications submitted from 1 December 2023, families may apply at any time. A reduction takes effect from the application month and may cover at most the two preceding months within the same school year. Families admitted to the programme may arrange monthly instalments if needed. Obtain an individual calculation before relying on a reduced figure.
Boarding costs
The 2026–27 boarding fee for Grades 9–12 is €26,400 per year in addition to tuition. There is a refundable €2,000 deposit and, where applicable, an annual single-room supplement of €6,100. The separate, one-time €100 boarding application fee is non-refundable.
Boarding is payable 60% on 1 September and 40% on 1 January. The first payment date therefore differs from tuition.
