Choosing a school in Madrid: north, west or French

Madrid’s schools do not form one convenient circuit. The British options are divided between the north and Pozuelo, the American school is west of the city, and the French lycée uses two sites.

British routes

Runnymede College in La Moraleja is a British day school leading through IGCSE to A levels. It suits a family seeking that subject-based route without boarding. Its official site published a 2026–27 fee table when reviewed; use that current document.

King’s College Soto is farther north in Soto de Viñuelas, Tres Cantos. It offers day places and boarding from age eleven, with A levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in sixth form. Compare its qualification choice and residential provision with Runnymede’s A-level day route.

The British School—El Colegio Británico is in Prado de Somosaguas, Pozuelo. It is a bilingual British day school, formerly the British Council School. Its public page still showed 2025–26 fees alongside a newer download, so use the latest dated schedule rather than copying an old amount.

Its sixth-form page offers the bilingual Spanish BiBac programme and International A levels. IB is planned from 2027, not a current programme to assume is available. Confirm authorisation and the actual starting cohort before choosing it for IB.

American and French routes

American School of Madrid is a non-profit American day school in Pozuelo. It offers an American high-school diploma and the IB Diploma. Its fees distinguish family and company payment and add a capital charge. Ask which academic year the quotation covers.

Lycée Français de Madrid follows the French curriculum through the baccalauréat. Its main Conde de Orgaz site and La Moraleja site do not serve identical year groups. Confirm the assigned campus before judging the journey. Registration and quarterly tuition are separate charges.

Build the shortlist

Choose between British, American and French progression before comparing facilities. Then decide whether boarding at King’s is necessary or whether every child will travel daily.

Language matters beyond the main teaching medium. Ask how Spanish is taught, what support is available to a new entrant and which national requirements apply. If long-term Spanish education is the goal, add a local colegio or instituto to the comparison.
