Choosing a school near Düsseldorf: ISD or ISR in Neuss

The International School of Düsseldorf, on Niederrheinstraße, offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programmes. It also has its own high-school diploma. It is the more direct choice for a child already following the IB.

ISR International School on the Rhine, at Konrad-Adenauer-Ring 2 in Neuss, uses IGCSE examinations in Grades 9–10 before the IB Diploma in Grades 11–12. It is worth comparing for a pupil continuing an examination-based secondary route. Ask which Diploma subjects and alternatives are available.

These are day schools in different municipalities. ISR also has kindergartens in Düsseldorf and Meerbusch; their fees and location are not the Neuss school’s.

What the first year costs

ISD publishes a 2026–27 tuition table and a one-time €6,500 admission fee. Some cafeteria and Cub Club entries remained labelled 2024–25 in our review. Ask for those current charges before completing the budget.

ISR supplies fees after a questionnaire rather than a public tuition table. Request the exact campus, programme and year, including registration, meals, transport and support. The lack of a public price says nothing about comparative affordability.

Test the fit before choosing a home

Confirm the child’s English level, year placement and support needs at both schools. Then test the actual Düsseldorf or Neuss journey, including after-school collection. Do not assume two Rhine-area addresses are an easy substitute for each other.

If German education is realistic, include a local public secondary school. For a family staying long term, the German Abitur may be a useful alternative to IB rather than a fallback.
