The four European Schools use category and language rules. BSB, ISB and Lycée Jean-Monnet are fee-paying alternatives with different curricula and locations.
Brussels has two distinct admissions systems. Establish which one your child can access before comparing campuses.
European School Brussels I, Brussels II, Brussels III and Brussels IV belong to one intergovernmental system. They lead to the European Baccalaureate, not the International Baccalaureate (IB).
Category I generally covers qualifying European-institution staff families and is fee-exempt. Category II is based on an agreement. Category III covers other applicants only where the Central Enrolment Authority finds capacity. For 2026–27, new Category III admission was effectively restricted to specified sibling cases. Confirm the current policy rather than assuming an address near a campus creates eligibility.
The Authority also uses language sections and capacity to allocate campuses. EEB2’s nursery and primary moved to Evere while secondary remains in Woluwe. Greek secondary and Czech pupils are directed to EEB3 under the reviewed rules. Some EEB4 Italian and Dutch provision is intended to move when EEB5 opens; obtain a dated transition plan.
The British School of Brussels, in Tervuren, offers English, bilingual and senior qualification routes. Its current bilingual programme teaches primary mathematics and English through an English-speaking teacher, with other subjects in French. Years 7–9 use a mixture of English and French, with some subjects taught in one language. Ask which stream is available and how placement is assessed.
The International School of Brussels, in Watermael-Boitsfort, is an independent English-medium day school. Lycée français Jean-Monnet, in Uccle, follows the French national curriculum. Request the current fee table for the exact programme; an older English-language Jean-Monnet table should not replace the French 2026–27 schedule.
Uccle, Berkendael, Evere, Woluwe, Ixelles, Laeken, Tervuren and Watermael-Boitsfort create very different journeys. Test only campuses the child can actually attend. Include local French- or Dutch-language schools if a Belgian route is realistic.

British School of Brussels is an English-medium international day school in Tervuren for ages 2.5–18. Its main distinctions are a French-English bilingual route through Year 9 and three different post-16 qualifications.

IxellesEEB3 is an official European School in Ixelles. Eligibility and central allocation determine access; Czech and Greek section rules make this campus especially important for some families.
LaekenEEB4 is an official European School in Laeken. Eligibility and central allocation determine access, while some Italian and Dutch pupils face a future move to EEB5.
