European School Brussels III (EEB3) is a day school in Ixelles within the official European Schools system. It is not an International Baccalaureate (IB) school: pupils follow the European Schools curriculum and can finish with the European Baccalaureate.
Can your child get a place?
You do not apply to EEB3 directly. The Brussels Central Enrolment Authority allocates places across all the Brussels European Schools, mainly by admission category and language section, so a preference for Ixelles counts for less than the section your child belongs in. Category I families have priority but no guaranteed place or school. Category III families can apply only if a sibling is already enrolled at EEB3 and the class has fewer than 24 pupils.
For 2026–27, the main phases have closed; a restricted fourth phase runs until 18 March 2027 for the cases listed in the 2026–27 policy. Our guide to European School admissions explains the categories, phases, language rules and fees that apply to every Brussels school.
Why EEB3 may be allocated
EEB3 has seven language sections from nursery through secondary: Czech (CS), Dutch (NL), English (EN), French (FR), German (DE), Greek (EL) and Spanish (ES).
For 2026–27, all Czech-section applications and all Greek-section secondary applications are referred to EEB3. Greek nursery and primary allocation also involves EEB3, while the policy treats the Greek satellite provision at EEB1 Berkendael separately. Families should use the policy table for the child’s cycle rather than assume that one Greek rule covers every age.
The policy schedules EEB5 for 2030–31. Greek satellite pupils at Berkendael are due to transfer when it opens, but there are protected cases. Siblings of pupils enrolled in those satellite classes before 2023–24 continue at EEB3. Pupils already enrolled at EEB3 when EEB5 opens, including former satellite pupils, and their siblings are not transferred. Confirm which rule applies before making a long-term housing decision.
For the first foreign language, which starts in Primary 1, EEB3 offers English, French or German.
Age, support and daily arrangements
Nursery admission begins in September of the calendar year in which a child turns four. Primary 1 begins in September of the calendar year in which the child turns six.
The campus is at Boulevard du Triomphe 135, 1050 Ixelles. Test the journey at the relevant school times. EEB3 directs families to the parents’ association, APEEE, for canteen, transport and extracurricular activities. Paid after-school care for children aged 4–12 of European-institution staff is organised by the European Commission.
The school publishes educational-support information, but a policy is not a promise that every need can be met. Before accepting a place, ask who will provide the required support, how often, in which language and at what cost.
Fees
Category I pupils pay no school fees. For 2026–27, the official guidance for Category III pupils enrolled from 2013–14 is €4,457.80 in nursery, €6,129.55 in primary and €8,358.46 in secondary. Category II, NATO and UN families pay under their own arrangements; the admissions guide sets out each rate. Budget separately for canteen, transport, activities and any support charges, which the Category I exemption does not necessarily cover.
Our view
EEB3 is a strong fit when the family is eligible for the European Schools system and the central rules allocate the child’s language section to Ixelles. It is especially consequential for Czech-section pupils and for Greek-section pupils entering secondary.
It is not the right comparison for a family simply seeking an English-medium private school. In that case, compare the curriculum, admissions freedom and full fees of schools such as the International School of Brussels separately.
