Open Gate is a private Czech primary school and eight-year gymnázium, with on-campus boarding. A gymnázium is an academically oriented secondary school. The eight-year route normally begins after Czech primary Year 5. The later curriculum combines Czech education with International Baccalaureate (IB) options, including the Diploma. Ask which subjects are taught in English in the intended year.
The school’s leaving-exams page limits acceptance to Czech pupils or those with a Czech residence permit. Ask the admissions team how that condition applies to your child. An English-language website and an IB option do not remove the Czech admissions requirements.
Gymnázium Říčany is a public regional school. Its four-year and eight-year routes are taught in Czech and lead to the Czech maturita. It has no boarding. It is the more relevant option if you want public Czech academic education and can manage the daily journey.
Both use national admission requirements, including Cermat examinations, with school-specific criteria. Open Gate also has its own entrance assessment. The published first-round windows for 2026–27 have closed and results are posted. Ask about an explicitly announced later round or the next intake; a results page is not evidence of a vacancy.
Open Gate’s public fee pages in our review still named 2025–26. Request updated primary, day-gymnázium or boarding terms for the exact offer. At Říčany, the parents’ association contribution is voluntary and should not be presented as tuition. Meals and activities may still cost extra.
Test Babice and Říčany separately. If boarding matters, ask about supervision, weekends, holidays and the journey home. If the child needs a fully English-medium school from the outset, broaden the search rather than assuming either route will provide it.
