St. Gilgen International School is a co-educational day-and-boarding school at Ischlerstrasse 13, 5340 St. Gilgen, on the Wolfgangsee. Official site stgis.at. The home page says Martina Moetz is Head, that the school was founded in 2008, and that it is an authorised IB World School for the MYP and the Diploma. Contact +43 6227 202 59. Admissions: admissions@stgis.at. General: info@stgis.at.
It is not Vienna International School, not the American International School Vienna, and not a first-district Gymnasium. The contact page times Salzburg airport at 35 minutes. Time that road before you treat St. Gilgen as a Viennese suburb.
The home page’s snapshot: grades 4–12, about 225 students. Treat that as the school’s own photograph.
The useful questions are: Is this child a day pupil from Grade 4, or a boarder from Grade 7? And have you added the enrolment fee and the deposit, because they sit beside the annual line?
Who it is for
Families who want an English IB week on an Austrian lake, with beds from Grade 7, or a day commute from the Salzkammergut.
Primary (the education page names Grade 5 as a hands-on introduction; the fee table starts at Grade 4). Middle is IB MYP, Grades 6–10, ending in the Personal Project. Senior is the IB Diploma in 11–12, plus a StGIS Diploma the education page says is accredited by CIS and WASC. From Grade 10, the admissions page expects strong English. Beginners can be supported in Primary and Middle.
It will not suit a family hunting a Viennese day international only, or a municipal Gymnasium that already knows the street. Walk those if that is the climate.
The campus you can actually picture
The Wolfgangsee. Ischlerstrasse 13. The contact page invites a tour or an Open Day, and says an in-person visit is the strong preference. Boarding applicants on a Trial Day stay the night.
It is a lake Tuesday, not the Ring.
How a child actually gets in
Rolling admissions, most join at the year start. Age-based placement, with flexibility. Application: form, three years of reports, passport, the child’s letter of motivation, a recommendation, certificates if any, and the €320 application fee. Trial Day: interview with the Head, tour, English and mathematics tests, classes, afternoon activities, overnight if boarding.
Non-EU passports need an educational visa; the page says that can take up to three months. Scholarships: apply by mid-March, financial disclosure, mostly partial, first entry only except extreme change of circumstances. Full scholarships are “extremely rare,” the page says.
We will not invent a cutoff score.

What we are not claiming
We are not ranking St. Gilgen against VIS or a Viennese Gymnasium. We are not putting this house on the Vienna hub. We are not treating 225 students as a census we counted. We are not inventing exam or shuttle euros.
Stairs questions
Ask whether you are buying day from Grade 4 or a bed from Grade 7. Ask how much German the lake still speaks after lunch. Add the deposit before you compare the annual line to Vienna.
Time St. Gilgen on a Sunday evening if you are buying a bed.
The St. Gilgen hub is the short map. The house also sits on the boarding page. The Austria country page is the wider one.
