ISL posts a six-page fee brochure. The euros are in it. So is the sentence that Luxembourg’s private-school subsidy is already inside those numbers.

The International School of Luxembourg is an English-medium day school for ages 3–18 in Luxembourg City. The homepage walks the school in bands: Early Years; Lower School Grades 2–5; Middle Years; then Grades 11–12, where most students follow the IB Diploma. Boarding is not advertised. If the posting has not found a flat, this is not the campus that absorbs that problem.
The postal address the school prints is 36 boulevard Pierre Dupong, L-1430. Older campus notes on the same site have warned that this is not always the map pin. Ask admissions which gate you actually drive to.
Alumni and staff still say Geesseknäppchen when they mean the place. That is the plateau of schools on the south-west edge of the city, not a village. A Luxembourg posting that already thinks in Kirchberg or Limpertsberg will want the commute in minutes, not in poetry.
The community pages talk about a 60-year journey. Treat that as the school’s own history line.
The useful questions are: Can this child work in English? Will they actually learn French, or only hear it at the bakery? Are you applying into Grade 8, 9 or 11 — the grades the school itself flags as busy? And have you read the fee PDF, including the subsidy sentence, before you fall in love with the Eagle?
Families on Luxembourg contracts who want an English-medium path to the IB, with French as a serious additional language, and who can live within a day-school radius of Geesseknäppchen.
It is not a lycée of the national system. The current language page is precise about French, German and Spanish. Ask what Luxembourgish — sometimes described on campus pages as a middle-school language-and-culture offer — looks like in this Grade 6.
It is also not a school that hides the bill. The Board of Governors sets entry and school fees annually. The 2026–27 brochure is six pages. Read it.
High demand is named for Grades 8, 9 and 11. Foundations and Pre-Kindergarten have their own interview calendar because the school wants the child closer to age 3 before it decides. Grade 12 is “please contact the Admissions Office.”
A limited number of academic, means-tested scholarships exist, “subject to availability,” on older admissions text. Ask whether any are open for the year you need. Do not budget as if they are.
Foundations and Pre-Kindergarten. Age 3 by 31 August for Foundations; age 4 by 31 August for Pre-K, from the school’s own age rules as previously published and still the structure on the dates page. Children turning 3 during 2025–26 are invited to interview as close as possible to, or after, the third birthday. Early Years joiners are generally scheduled to start on a Wednesday.
Lower School, Grades 1–5. Grade 1 joiners generally start on a Monday. The homepage’s inquiry language for Grades 2–5 is investigation, application, enthusiasm. Healthy snacks from Grade 1 to Grade 5 are a required extra (€340 a year in the 2026–27 PDF), unless a formal doctor’s Personal Allergy Plan is on file with the nurse and the caterer cannot cope. Class funds are €20 (Foundations–Grade 1) or €10 (Grades 2–5), charged in October.
Middle School, Grades 6–8, then Grades 9–10. English remains the medium. All students in Grades 6–10 take French as an additional language at Language A or B “unless there are exceptional circumstances.” Most also take German (Grades 6–10) or Spanish (Grades 6 and 7 only), unless they are in ELB or Learning Support. In Grades 6–8 the design is two languages besides English; if the school decides that is too much, it assigns Teacher Assisted Study Class (TASC) in place of German or Spanish and tells the parents. Grade 10 is when IB language choices have to be made.
Grades 11–12. Most students follow the IB Diploma. Tuition includes IBO exams, MAP, CAT4 and PASS, the PDF says. Upper School students bring their own laptop to school specifications. From Grade 7 a TI-Nspire (non-CAS) calculator is required; the school offers purchase at €151 via the SchoolsBuddy wallet.
Residential trips are mandatory from Grade 2 through Grade 10. The 2026–27 PDF’s estimates, which it says may move:

PE uniform from Grade 3 is a required extra. Lost books are charged. Special additional support “may be invoiced based on the individual’s situation.” Optional non-ISL online courses (the PDF names Pamoja and Global Online Academy) may be charged.
Instruction is in English. French is the host-country story the language page actually specifies for Grades 6–10. German and Spanish are the second additional languages, with the TASC escape hatch above.
Ask how many hours of French a January arrival in Grade 4 actually gets, and what ELB looks like if English is not yet academic. The 2019 admissions regulations still on the Finalsite archive name a non-refundable EAL entry fee when English needs extra support, and say families who leave and return after two years pay it again if EAL is still required. Confirm whether that fee is still on the current regulations, and what it costs in 2026–27 — the fee brochure we extracted does not print an EAL line in the main table.
Ask the language office to confirm whether Luxembourgish Language and Culture is on this Grade 6 timetable.
The overview page wants the journey to be “straightforward”: book an in-person tour or an online conversation, or apply. Applications should be started within one year of the intended enrolment date. A checklist of uploads appears as you complete the form.
This school year: a decision in at most 10 school days after the admissions interview.
Next school year:
An offer comes with an enrolment offer agreement and a non-refundable Registration Fee. The student is enrolled when the signed agreement is back. The registration invoice is created at signature and is owed then. Reply window: one week for the current year, two weeks for the next. Read the Admissions Regulations; the FAQ points to them.
A waiting pool is a FAQ heading. Learning-support capacity is another. Cut-off birth dates are a third. Read the live answers. We are not inventing a SEN policy from a heading.

The Growth Fund is currently for building refits; Growth and Registration feed that fund. The Stability Reserve is there “to protect the sustainability of the school” against swings in the government subsidy, enrolment, and extraordinary economics. Tuition runs the annual operating budget.
In later years the Stability Reserve is the non-refundable deposit that secures the next year. On signature of enrolment acceptance, all of the annual fees above are committed.
The PDF’s sentence parents miss: these fees already include the Luxembourg State subsidy for private schools, “presently averaging approximately €12,755 per child.” Without that subsidy, “the tuition fees payable would increase by a similar amount.” That is not a discount you apply at home. It is why the published tuition is the published tuition.

Withdrawal is a formal act: online form, registered letter, scan to islfinances@islux.lu, or hand-delivery with a receipt. Email chat is not enough. On or before 30 June, Stability Reserve (returning) and Entry fees (new) stay owed. After 30 June, Growth and Stability are owed in full, plus a percentage of tuition that depends on notification month and departure month — 50%, 75% or 100% in the PDF’s grid. From a January notification, tuition is 100% whatever the leaving month in that table.
Fees are owed once you sign, “even if you have not received an invoice yet or even if no effective attendance takes place.” If the school must close for reasons beyond its control, fees are not reimbursed. Unpaid balances can delay entry, withhold records, attract interest, or go to collection.
If a company pays, complete the third-party authorisation. The contract is still with the parents. If the third party is late, the parents are invoiced.
A first-year Grade 6 is not “about €22,000.” It is application + registration + annual total — €27,305 — before the Germany trip, PE kit, calculator, cafeteria, and any EAL or learning-support invoice.
Lunches are extra: Lower School via MyLunch; Upper School cafeteria with a €25 daily card limit, prepaid by credit card. After-school Stay’n Play, team kit, instrument rental, and parent-arranged tutoring are listed as voluntary or parental.
ISL is not a specialist SEN school. The fee brochure says special additional support may be invoiced for the individual. The admissions FAQ asks whether ISL supports special learning needs — read the live answer and bring current reports to the first meeting. Ask whether the school can staff what your child needs, and what that would cost in a year that is not the brochure year.
Ask which gate is the map pin. Ask how French is grouped in this grade, and whether a child can still buy a bun in French by Easter. Ask whether Grade 8, 9 or 11 still has a seat. Ask whether EAL applies, and whether the EAL entry fee is still charged. Ask who teaches Luxembourgish this year. Ask what happens if the contract ends in March (read the withdrawal grid; January notification is already 100% tuition). Ask whether the employer will complete the third-party form, and remember you still owe the money. Ask to see Grade 5 and Grade 9, not only the Eagle.
We are not saying ISL is the best school in Luxembourg. We are not guessing a waitlist. We are not inventing a 2027–28 fee. We are not treating the €12,755 subsidy as cash you will see. Accreditation pages on the school site have been difficult to extract as text; confirm CIS, MSA and IB status on the live accreditations page and on IB.org.
Read the current fee PDF and write to admissions@islux.lu before you resign a flat in another country. This is a map. Geesseknäppchen still has to be the right Tuesday.
