Benjamin Franklin International School is a co-educational, non-profit American-and-IB day school in Sarrià, Barcelona. The official site is bfischool.org. Legal name on the payments page: Fundación Privada Benjamin Franklin. Address Martorell i Peña 9, 08017 Barcelona. Visitors use Passatge Torras i Bages 4 and register at the security booth. The heritage page: ten Barcelona families began the idea in 1985; the school opened in September 1986 with 23 teachers and 150 students, PK–12. That is origin story, not a current headcount. The home page says over 63 nationalities.
This is not the American School of Barcelona in Esplugues, and it is not Oak House a few Sarrià streets away. ASB is an American diploma plus IB west of the city. Oak House keeps British, Catalan and IB in the same week. BFIS is American through Grade 5, MYP in 6–10, IB Diploma in 11–12, against Collserola. Three climates. One hill. Almost no Monday.
The useful questions are: Do you want an American elementary that becomes IB, or Oak House’s Catalan secondary? Can you live with Sarrià at 8:00? And will you ask for the live euro table the public fees page did not print as text?
Families who want English-medium American practice and then the IB, in the city, next to the park. Families who can accept a foundation that is frank about individual and corporate fee columns — and who will email admissions rather than guess a number from a directory.
The transparency page says the programme also offers convalidación with the Spanish path: Catalan, Castilian, and Geography and History in ESO and Bachillerato. Ask how much of that this child actually sits. We will not invent a bilingual timetable from a legal paragraph.
It will not board anyone. If you need a US high-school diploma as the main paper without MYP language, walk ASB. If you need IGCSE then Catalan Bachillerato, walk Oak House.
We will not treat “one of the best international schools in Spain” homepage copy as a medal.
Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, hills, Collserola. The admissions welcome page talks about public transport, hiking, outdoor learning. Ask to see Grade 6 (the MYP door) and the IB corridor, not only the park view. Time the hill from the flat you will actually rent. Oak House is also Sarrià. They are not the same patio.
Applications are printed for ages 3–17, Early Childhood through IBDP. Grade 12 entry is not named on the first-time-apply list we could read (that list stops at Grade 11). Ask admissions if you are arriving for a last IB year.
Rolling, year-round. Siblings, the apply page says, are accommodated when the school can. Four steps the page names: online form, documents, application fee, then criteria / grade requirements / placement / decision, then enrolment paperwork.
We could not read the application-fee euro as public text. We will not invent it. The payments portal exists for school fees and application fees. Ask admissions for this year’s figure.
Book a visit; the FAQ says campus demand means you should arrange it. Entrance is the passatge, not a casual gate.
The fees page has tabs for Individual Fees, Corporate Fees, payment methods and a payment policy. In the fetch we used, those tables did not appear as readable text. We will not invent an annual tuition. Ask admissions or the business office for this year’s individual and corporate sheets, in writing.
What the page does print: BFIS is a non-profit; euros are reinvested. Optional AXA tuition insurance if a parent dies or is permanently disabled — premium depends on the number and ages of children covered. Confirm that product if it matters to you.
A first year at BFIS is not “about the same as Oak House.” Oak House also hid its annual tuition. Do the sum on the sheet they send you.
Ask for the live individual and corporate tables. Ask how much Catalan a new twelve-year-old meets in MYP. Ask whether this child is an IB Tuesday at 16. Walk Oak House and ASB in the same week.
We are not ranking BFIS among IB schools. We are not inventing a euro the public page omitted. We are not calling Sarrià the same childhood as Esplugues. Read the current fees sheet before you sign a Collserola lease. This is a map. The school still has the file.
