GO! leefschool De Klare Bron is a Dutch-language nursery and primary school at Jules Vandenbemptlaan 14, 3001 Heverlee. It belongs to GO!, the public education network of the Flemish Community.

The school covers Flemish nursery education and all six years of primary education. It has no secondary department and no boarding provision.

Its 2026–27 regulations are shared with GO! leefschool De Grasmus at Grasmushof 5 in Leuven. The schools have the same governing structure but are separate sites. Families applying to De Klare Bron should name the Heverlee location clearly.

What a leefschool means here

De Klare Bron follows the Flemish curriculum. Its educational approach places more emphasis on projects and pupil participation than a conventional subject-by-subject description might suggest.

The school describes its work through “head, heart and hands.” Academic knowledge, personal development and practical experience are intended to reinforce one another. Teachers may combine subject content within a wider project, and children help shape some of the questions explored.

This does not make it an English-medium or international school. Teaching is in Dutch. A family whose child is new to Dutch should ask how language development will be assessed and supported in the relevant class.

The school also expects parents to support its pedagogical project. Before enrolling, ask what participation looks like in practice and whether any activities take place during working hours.

Admissions

De Klare Bron participates in the regional Leuven primary-school admissions process. The main application and registration periods for 2026–27 have ended.

The City of Leuven now tells families to contact schools with remaining places directly. A child can be enrolled only where space is still available. The city asks families to bring the child’s Kids-ID or ISI+ card, plus evidence of a school allowance where applicable.

The city has not yet published the general 2027–28 application calendar. Do not reuse the March 2026 dates for a future application. Ask the school when the next regional application window will open.

The school regulations provide priority for siblings and step-siblings of current pupils. The school communicates the timing of that priority period.

Costs and the maximum invoice

GO! schools do not charge an enrolment fee. Materials needed to meet the curriculum objectives are also provided without charge. Families may still be asked to contribute to activities and optional services.

The 2026–27 regulations state the following statutory limits:

Cost category 2026–27 limit or price
One-day activities, nursery €55 per school year
One-day activities, primary €110 per school year
Residential trips, nursery €0
Residential trips, primary €560 across the entire primary period
Soup at lunch €1.10

The €560 residential-trip limit is not an annual charge. It is the maximum total that may be requested for qualifying multi-day trips across all six primary years.

These limits do not form an all-inclusive school price. Meals, childcare and other optional services may be charged separately. Ask for the current list before estimating the annual family budget.

School day and childcare

The 2026–27 regulations give the following school hours:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 08:45–15:25
  • Wednesday: 08:45–12:20

Morning and after-school care is administered separately by Leuven’s childcare service. The regulations list care from 07:00–08:30 each morning. Afternoon care runs from 15:40–18:30, or 12:35–18:30 on Wednesday.

Childcare is invoiced separately. The school’s public pages do not give the current charge, so families should confirm prices and registration requirements with the provider.

Children bring a packed lunch. The school offers soup as an optional addition.

How to compare it

De Klare Bron is most relevant to families seeking Dutch-language Flemish primary education with a project-based, participatory approach. It is not a route to an international secondary qualification, so the next school transition should be considered before the sixth primary year.

The International School of Leuven offers private English-medium primary education nearby. The two schools differ in teaching language, curriculum context, admissions and costs.

Contact De Klare Bron at directie@leefscholenleuven.be or 016 22 26 73. Ask about current vacancies, Dutch-language support, parent participation and the latest list of optional charges. The Leuven guide and Belgium overview give more context.
