International School of Hellerup is a not-for-profit school under Danish law, with state funding plus the monthly fees you pay. The official domain is ish.dk. Do not land on ishelsinki.fi. Same initials, different country, different currency, different ministry.
Two campuses. Primary and Middle School — Pre-K through MYP 4, ages 3–14 — at Rygårds Allé 131, 2900 Hellerup, +45 70 20 63 68. High School — MYP 5, DP 1–2, and Danish STX, ages 15–19 — at Præstøgade 17, 2100 København, in Østerbro, +45 20 82 05 80. IB inbox: info@ish.dk. STX inbox: stxinfo@ish.dk. Admissions: admissions@ish.dk, +45 35 55 50 48. Fees: schoolfees@ish.dk.
It is a day school. Both sites are described as reachable by bike, bus and train. There is no boarding house on the pages we read.
The homepage’s current picture: IB programmes plus a Danish STX; Early Years 3–5; Primary 6–11; Middle 11–16; High School IB 16–19; STX 16–19. After-school care from 07:00 and until 17:00 for ages 3–10. A June 2026 note names 38 IB Diploma graduates at the Class of 2026 ceremony. Treat that as the school’s own count.
The useful questions are Danish. Does this child have a CPR (and a matching address on the yellow card) by the deadline that applies to this grade — because the subsidised monthly rate collapses to 6,500 DKK if they do not? Are you choosing the IB door or the STX door at 16, and do you understand they are not the same piece of paper? Can the school meet a learning need that might cost from 3,000 DKK a month on top? And if you might stay, do you want a Danish studentereksamen or an IB Diploma that universities abroad already know?
Who it is for
ISH presents itself as an IB Continuum school — one of two in Copenhagen offering PYP, MYP and DP — and, on the same Østerbro site, a 3-year STX. That double door is the point. Families who may leave Denmark often want the IB. Families who may stay often want the STX, which the school describes as academic, study-ready, and alcohol-free, with language, social-science and natural-science tracks.
Admissions for Pre-K through MYP 4 are open all year. DP applications close 1 September; after that, only IB Diploma transfers whose subjects ISH can actually timetable. PYP 4 through DP1 applicants are invited for English and maths tests and an interview. PYP 1–3 may be interviewed and assessed as needed. The committee named on the applying page: Admissions Officer, the relevant principal, the IB coordinator, the Head of School, and others as required.
A late-August 2026 note on the EAL page said regular Early Years/Primary tours were fully booked, extra tours ran 24 August–4 September, and a small number of Early Years/Primary seats remained for 2026–27. That can change in a week. Ask admissions what is open this week.
It is for families who will do Betalingsservice (direct debit) within three months, or agree another schedule. It is not a folkeskole. State money reduces the monthly fee only when CPR rules are met.
The campus you can actually picture
Hellerup is Gentofte: villas, the coast, a playground the contact page uses for new-family orientation. Østerbro is inner Copenhagen: a high-school house, not a primary garden. The jump at MYP 5 is a real childhood event. Ask how a fifteen-year-old actually travels between sites, and who knows them on day one at Præstøgade.
An Upper School Exhibition note from March 2026 mentioned 80 students and more than 300 works. Nice if you like art. Still ask to see an ordinary PYP 3 classroom and the MYP 5 corridor.
First day named on a 2026 welcome note: Monday 10 August. New-family orientation for Kindergarten through MYP 4: Friday 7 August, 09:00–10:00, Hellerup playground. Confirm the next year’s dates on the Family Guide; we are not treating one August as a forever calendar.
How the day is organised
Early Years, ages 3–5. Playful, inquiry-based PYP start. Pre-K is its own legal and fee creature: ASCP and holiday care sit inside the monthly programme fee, and lunch is mandatory unless a documented dietary or religious reason exists. Families must sign the child out of the previous børnehave. Miss that, and the school says the invoice can be moved to the non-subsidised rate.
Primary, ages 6–11. PYP in a “nurturing, internationally-minded community” — the school’s sentence. Danish is taught; the language policy (on the school’s IB document host) describes proficiency grouping and home-language use inside Danish and homeroom.
Middle School, ages 11–16 / through MYP 4 on the Hellerup site. Independence and academic skills, still PYP-to-MYP continuum language. MYP 4 has a work-placement week instead of the travelling Core Week the younger MYP years pay for.
High School IB. MYP 5, then the two-year Diploma. The school calls MYP 5 the best preparation for DP. DP1 late arrivals must start by the end of September; parents still owe fees from August if the place was reserved, or may be offered MYP 5 instead.
High School STX. A separate 3-year Danish gymnasium path on the same Østerbro campus. Application culture is Danish: optagelse.dk, ministry entrance rules, possible centrally set entrance tests. Fees are not the IB monthly table. See money.
After-school: Morning Club 07:00–08:20 (the care page) or 07:00–08:30 (the terms PDF — ask which clock is live). ASCP until 17:00 for Pre-K through PYP 4. Middle School after-school 15:30–17:00, 650 DKK a month, minimum 14 students.
Languages, which is half the school
Instruction in the IB programmes is English. Danish is the host-country language in PYP and MYP, grouped by proficiency. Students at all Danish levels are accepted, the language document says.
EAL is a named programme with named teachers on the public page. PYP children receive tailored support. MYP 1–5 sit in mainstream subjects and attend English Language Acquisition in English lessons, on IB phases: emergent, capable, proficient. Students can exit EAL when social and academic English work independently across subjects. PYP 4–5, MYP and DP applicants take an English placement/admissions test. If English is weaker than the regular pathway can hold, parents may be asked to pay for extra support.
STX is a Danish-medium gymnasium path. Do not assume an EAL child can slide from MYP into STX without a separate, honest conversation.
How a child actually gets in
Five stages on the applying page: review the Admissions Policy, apply online with the documents for that age, pay the 2,000 DKK application fee per child, wait for the committee, sit tests/interviews where required, then — if offered — complete the enrolment agreement and pay the enrolment fee and deposit.
DP after 1 September is transfer-only. STX has its own optagelse.dk calendar; do not use the IB form and hope.
Bring IEPs and recent assessments. Learning support has published levels and published prices. Hide a need and you will have the wrong Tuesday.
Money, as the 2026–27 PDFs print it
Fees are monthly, twelve months, including July, except DP2 (August through June only). The full month is due if the child is enrolled for any day of it. Direct debit is mandatory within three months of the first day; miss it and a 500 DKK monthly administration fee is added, unless you have agreed quarterly, biannual or annual payment.

The same PDF’s table prints subsidised rates “with CPR before 1/9-25” in one header and “September 1st, 2026” in the paragraph above it. The terms PDF uses 1 September for most grades and 1 December for MYP 5. We are printing the kroner from the 2026–27 table and telling you to confirm the deadline year on the live PDF — the notes section still also says 1 September 2025 / 1 December 2025, which looks like a leftover. Use the fee PDF.

Pre-K is invoiced at the subsidised rate only if the municipality approves and the previous daycare sign-out is confirmed; otherwise the school says it will retroactively move you to 6,500. Late or missing CPR for other grades: 6,500 for the entire school year, because the school can claim state funding once.
Sibling discounts (monthly, DKK): second child 350, third 650, fourth 1,150.
Annual extras (DKK): PTA 250 per family; materials 400 per student; class activity 300 (Pre-K–PYP 5) or 500 (MYP 1–4). Core Week (mandatory for MYP 1, 2, 3 and 5): about 1,700 / 4,600 / 5,600 / 4,000. Withdraw after October and you still pay; the school books by the end of October. MYP 5 orientation about 700; DP orientation about 1,300.
Optional, from the same PDF: lunch 750 a month (August 375; Aug–Jun; mandatory for Pre-K). Learning Support from 3,000 a month, Aug–Jul, including July even if you are not returning. Therapy 1,800 a month Sep–Jun plus 4,000 assessment. ASCP full-time 1,630 (includes Morning Club; included in Pre-K). Morning Club only 510. Middle School after-school 650. Holiday care from 250 a day for Kindergarten–PYP 4 (included for Pre-K). Late ASCP pickup 200. Emergency lunch 50. The public ASCP page still prints 500 / 1,600; the 2026–27 PDF prints 510 / 1,630. Use the PDF.
STX, from the school’s own skolepenge page: 1,938 DKK a month, 23,256 DKK a year, twelve portions. On accepting a place, a non-refundable 2,000 DKK enrolment fee, paid before the first day. Bank-transfer or giro payment 500 DKK extra; Betalingsservice is free. STX withdrawal: two months’ notice on a paper form (parents sign if the student is under 18). That is not the IB three-month rule. Computers and the 2.g study trip are extra.
Withdrawal (IB / main school). Official form only. Standard notice three months. Submitted by the 15th: that month plus two more. On or after the 16th: that month plus three more. Re-enrolment season February–August has harsher rules: change your mind after re-enrolling, by 31 May, and you lose the deposit but not tuition after July; between 31 May and 1 September, three-month notice and the deposit. The deposit covers July if you are not returning. DP2 deposits come back in September.
A first-year PYP 3 with CPR, paid by a family who also wants full ASCP and lunch, is not “about 3,785.” It is application + enrolment + deposit + 3,785 × 12 + lunch + ASCP + PTA + materials + class activity — do the arithmetic on the PDF, then add the bicycle. Without CPR it is 6,500 a month until July. We are not adding a 2027/28 index; the terms only promise at least 2%.
Fripladstilskud (income-based ministry help for Kindergarten–DP2) and municipal Pre-K subsidies exist. They are applied for, not assumed. Transport help: more than 5 km from Hellerup for Kindergarten–MYP 4, form by 1 April; MYP 5–DP2 use Ungdomskort. Students 18+ may apply for SU.
Support, and the limit the pages admit
Three published levels on the learning-support page. Some support is in the ordinary classroom at no extra fee. Identified needs beyond that: screenings, and about 3,000 DKK a month on average for the middle level — the page says it varies. Intensive support (an extra teacher in or out of class) is priced by the resources required. The terms PDF: basic LSS from 3,000, intensive by written agreement, billed twelve months including July.
That is not hidden. Bring the reports. Ask whether ISH can staff what your child actually needs — and what that does to a year that is already 12 × 3,785.
What to ask on the stairs
Ask IB or STX while you still have time to change your mind. Ask which campus this child will actually attend in August, and how MYP 4 becomes MYP 5. Ask how Danish is grouped, and whether a child can still buy a bolle in the bakery without English by Easter. Ask whether EAL would apply, and whether a PYP 4 English test is a placement tool or a gate. Ask for the CPR deadline that applies to this grade in this PDF edition — the 2025 and 2026 dates currently sit in the same file. Ask what Pre-K actually costs this month, 5,295 or 5,190. Ask to see PYP 2 and MYP 5, not only the exhibition.
If the posting might end in March, walk the three-month notice with a calendar in your hand. July is a real invoice.
What we are not claiming
We are not saying Hellerup is “the other CIS.” We are not guessing a waitlist or an enrolment total. We are not blending STX kroner into the IB table. We are not treating 38 graduates as a league table. We are not using fee-directory sites.
Read the live fee schedule and terms, and write to admissions before you resign a flat in another country. This is a map. The school still has to be the right Tuesday.
