Deutsch-Norwegische Schule Oslo is a German-Norwegian encounter school — a private Begegnungsschule recognised by both countries — on the Akerselva in Sagene. Official site deutsch-norwegische-schule.no. The school page says it currently holds 18 classes across primary, middle and upper school, follows German plans, and uses Norwegian plans in Norwegian and Samfunnsfag. After Grade 12, pupils who complete the path leave with the Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIA) and the Norwegian Vitnemål.
It is not Oslo International School in Bekkestua, and not Lycée français René Cassin on Skovveien and Vulkan. Three official climates. Three papers. One capital.
It is a day school. There is no boarding house. The Infothek is explicit: DENOSO runs no school bus. Under Opplæringsloven §2-12, pupils at a friskole have no right to free school transport. Time Myra yourselves.
The useful questions are: Do you want a German week that still ends with a Norwegian vitnemål? Can you live with Sagene in January? And have you added AKS or SAKS — because the after-school kroner sit on a different line from the monthly school fee.
Families who want German and Norwegian in the same biography, from a kindergarten that takes children from the twelfth month through a double leaving certificate at 12.
The school page says people from more than 25 nations walk the house each day. Treat that as the school’s own snapshot. Language and culture from both countries are the point of a Begegnungsschule, not an English IB corridor with a German club.
It will not suit a family hunting an English-medium IB diploma in Bærum, or a French Bac in Frogner. Walk those houses if that is the climate. Walk the municipal grunnskole if the public yard is allowed to be first.

Secretariat hours the Infothek prints: Monday–Friday 08:00–15:00, closed 10:00–11:30 on Tuesdays. Kindergarten and AKS: 07:45–16:45. SAKS: from 14:00, or after lessons, until 16:45.
Time Myra at 7:40 in January, then Skovveien, then Bekkestua. The river is not Bærum.
Norwegian is taught as mother tongue (NoM) or foreign language (NoFre). The Infothek says the school tells you which group the child joins. Books are a parent purchase — German titles and Norwegian titles, two orders, not one.
AKS holds Grades 1–4. SAKS holds Grades 5–8. Any enrolled pupil in those years may join. Enrolment is open through the year; the notice period is one month. Marc Rohner is named for AKS forms.
The first school day the 2026/27 holiday plan prints is 17 August 2026. Grade 1 Einschulung is 19 August 2026. We print the school’s calendar. We do not invent a national deadline around it.
Applications are rolling. Write the secretariat. The Infothek wants: the school application form, copies of the last two reports if they exist, the child’s birth certificate, the vaccination record, and the AKS/SAKS form if you want the afternoon.
Guest pupils are possible through Grade 10. Grades 11 and 12 are the qualification phase for the International German Abitur and must be attended in full at DENOSO. Do not plan a one-year DIA landing in Grade 12.
Grade 1. First application deadline: 1 December of the year before. Early in the new year the school invites children to a Kennenlernstunde — a first group hour, including a look at language understanding — and then closes the file. Register the child with the kommune for a municipal school in parallel; withdraw that registration if DENOSO says yes.
Kindergarten. First-round deadline 1 March, inside Oslo’s Hovedopptak. Apply to the school and to the city district where you live (or Bydel Sagene if you live outside Oslo). Put DENOSO first. Applications are ordered by date of receipt and by the kindergarten statutes. The Infothek says the house keeps its own waiting list, and that a child can fall off it if an offered place is not accepted, or if the child is missing from the kommune portal. We will not invent the length of that list.
School notice period: three months, to the end of a month. Kindergarten: the same three months.
School, AKS/SAKS and kindergarten fees follow Norwegian makspris, recalculated from national subsidy rates every six months. Invoiced monthly, in full, at the start of the month. July is free. Unpaid invoices go to a collection agency.
Admission, once a place is offered, not refundable: 3,300 NOK per child in school; 3,000 NOK in kindergarten.

Sibling rebate in school: from the third child, 35%, only if fees are not reimbursed by an employer, and only for children in the school — kindergarten siblings do not count. It appears automatically on the monthly invoice.
Social rebate: families with yearly income under 6G (folketrygdens grunnbeløp) may apply, with income and asset papers. The board decides case by case. From the calendar month after the application. Not backdated. Renew each calendar year.
Replacement reports: 1,000 NOK per document in individual cases.
Makspris moves. Ask for the live Infothek line the month you actually enrol.
We are not ranking DENOSO against OIS or LFO. We are not inventing a waitlist length, a 6G kroner figure, or a yearly school total the Infothek does not print. We are not calling this an IB school. We are not promising a school bus. We are not treating “Max Tau” as the live official name — the pages we opened say Deutsch-Norwegische Schule Oslo.
Ask whether this child is entering kindergarten, Grade 1, or a later year, and whether Grades 11–12 can actually be finished here. Ask which Norwegian group — mother tongue or foreign language — the school will name. Ask what AKS costs after the municipal core-hours decision. Ask how German the yard is after lunch in Grade 8.
Time Myraløkka on a dark Tuesday. Then walk Frogner, then Bekkestua, in the same week.
