Odense International School, or OIS, and Henriette Hørlücks Skole, or HHS, are both at Slotsvænget. OIS is the English-medium international department. HHS teaches the Danish curriculum.
The two departments require separate applications. Apply to both only if both educational routes would genuinely work; one application does not hold a place in the other.
OIS: Cambridge education to age 16
OIS begins with preschool for children who turn five by 1 September. It continues through Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary to IGCSE examinations in S10–S11. IGCSE is an international secondary qualification, not an IB Diploma or a Danish STX. Plan the upper-secondary move before choosing OIS for an older child.
New pupils normally start in August or January. The school says English must be the child’s academic language. Ask how it assesses that condition and what support exists in the intended year.
The 2026/27 fees are paid over 11 months: DKK 4,200 monthly for the first child in P1–P4 and DKK 3,980 for P5–S11. Second-child rates are lower; a third or later child has no tuition in P1–S11.
Application costs DKK 1,500 per family. Deposits are DKK 8,000 for the first child and DKK 4,000 for later children. They are refundable only under the stated withdrawal conditions. Books are included, while trips and required devices are not.
After-school care for the first two children in P1–P4 is included. Later-year clubs have separate prices. There is no morning care and no boarding.
HHS: Danish schooling with early languages
HHS is the relevant comparison when the child should learn mainly in Danish. English begins in the earliest classes, with French and German added later. Its semi-international English provision is extra language teaching within a Danish school, not the OIS curriculum.
The HHS fee page available during this review is still labelled 2025/26. It lists DKK 2,300 monthly for the first child across 12 months, with sibling reductions. It also prices after-school care and semi-international English separately. Request the 2026/27 or 2027/28 schedule before budgeting; an older “new pupil” page shows lower, conflicting figures.
Compare the complete school day
Both departments are day schools. Test Slotsvænget at morning arrival and after-school collection. OIS starts classroom teaching at 8:10 and provides no early-morning care. Public-transport reimbursement depends on a limited fund and submitted travel records; it is not a guaranteed fixed percentage.
Choose OIS for English-medium Cambridge continuity through 16. Choose HHS if Danish should be the principal academic and social language. Also compare the local folkeskole if a publicly funded neighbourhood school could meet your needs.
