Choosing a school in Hamburg: English IB or bilingual Abitur
International School Hamburg teaches in English and offers IB qualifications. Phorms combines German and English within a route to the German Abitur.

International School Hamburg, on Hemmingstedter Weg in Groß Flottbek, is an English-medium day school with International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes in secondary education. German is taught from Grade 1. Choose it if the child needs academic continuity in English.
Phorms Campus Hamburg, on Wendenstraße in Hammerbrook, teaches in German and English from daycare through the Abitur. It is a German qualification route, not an IB school. It is more relevant if a family wants bilingual teaching while staying within the German system.
Ask both schools what a child can access with their current languages. The existence of English lessons or bilingual teaching does not establish that a newcomer can follow every year group without support.
Request a current, complete budget
The ISH fee document available in the original source review was dated 2018. That is not a usable current quotation. Request a dated schedule for the proposed start year, including enrolment, capital charges, transport, meals and language support.
Phorms publishes monthly charges and a Friends’ Association contribution linked to income. Ask the school to calculate the whole household’s monthly and annual commitment, including lunch and other compulsory services. A monthly base fee alone is not comparable with another school’s annual total.
Compare the two daily journeys
Groß Flottbek and Hammerbrook create different routines. Test the actual route from your likely home, including collection after activities. Neither school provides a boarding solution.
If the family expects to stay, include a local Gymnasium or Stadtteilschule in the comparison. Both are German secondary-school routes; ask which qualification and support the particular school offers rather than assuming the name answers everything.

MunichBavarian International School
BIS is an English-medium day school with primary provision on both campuses and secondary provision in Haimhausen. It offers all four IB programmes, but its Grade 11–12 routes do not carry the same recognition. Admissions are rolling and capacity-led.
KleinmachnowBBIS Berlin Brandenburg International School
BBIS offers English-language education from age three through Grade 12, with boarding from Grade 9. Its Kleinmachnow location and the separate tuition, registration and boarding charges are central to the decision.
