The useful comparison is between qualifications and daily journeys, not a ranking.
Robert Gordon’s College, on Schoolhill in the city centre, follows the Scottish curriculum from Nursery to S6. Pupils work towards National 5s, then Highers and Advanced Highers. It is the more direct fit for a child continuing a Scottish school pathway.
International School Aberdeen, at Pitfodels near Cults, serves preschool through Grade 12 and leads to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. It is relevant when the child needs continuity with an international programme or expects to move again.
Both qualifications can support university applications in Scotland or abroad. For an older pupil, compare the available subjects and transfer requirements with the intended university course. Do not choose solely on the assumption that one qualification is “local” and the other “portable.”
Compare the full 2026–27 year
Robert Gordon’s lists S1–S6 at £21,204 a year including VAT. Its senior lunch column is blank, so confirm meals separately. SQA examination fees are included except appeals.
ISA lists Grades 9–12 at £21,000 including VAT, with IB examination fees and a school Chromebook included. Extended care after the included period and transport are additional. The similar headline totals are not proof of identical packages.
For younger pupils, use the exact age row. Robert Gordon’s P4–6 lunch-inclusive figure had unusual punctuation in the reviewed table; ask the school to confirm it before budgeting.
Visit and apply to the right year
Robert Gordon’s opens 2027–28 applications on 12 September 2026. Bursary and scholarship deadlines differ from the ordinary application deadline. The school lists a Schoolhill event on 12 September; Countesswells is its sports site, not another academic campus.
ISA lists an open day on 11 September 2026 and individual tours during the year. Confirm booking and current availability directly.
Test Schoolhill and Pitfodels from the proposed home, including after-school collection. Neither offers boarding. Include a local state academy and other Aberdeen schools in the wider search: this comparison is selective, not a complete city directory.
