Aarhus International School teaches the IB in English through age 16. Århus Privatskole follows the Danish curriculum through 9. klasse.
Aarhus International School, or AIS, and Århus Privatskole serve overlapping ages but prepare children for different next steps.
AIS, at Dalgas Avenue 12, teaches the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years and Middle Years programmes in English, from age three to about 16. It does not offer the IB Diploma. Before choosing it for an older child, identify the next school: a Danish upper-secondary programme, an IB Diploma provider elsewhere or a move abroad.
Århus Privatskole, at Vestre Kongevej 10 in Viby, is a Danish private school from 0. to 9. klasse. It follows a Danish educational and cultural framework and does not offer the IB. Choose it only if the child can learn in Danish or the school confirms a realistic transition plan.
AIS’s 2026–27 schedule charges monthly tuition and links state support to a Danish CPR number, qualifying address and physical presence by 5 September 2026. Missing the count-date conditions may add a substantial monthly surcharge. The friplads fee-assistance application had a separate 12 September 2026 deadline. Ask which future deadlines apply to your start date.
Århus Privatskole’s price page was dated 1 January 2026, not a full 2026–27 academic year. It listed 12 monthly payments in 0.–8. klasse and 11 in 9. klasse. A form plus DKK 500 places a child on the waiting list; it does not guarantee admission. Ask about an actual vacancy before treating the lower fee as an available choice.
For both schools, add care, clubs, trips and other compulsory items. Compare the local folkeskole as well, especially for a family staying in Denmark.
Test Dalgas Avenue and Viby from the home you are considering. Ask what language the child will use during breaks and after-school activities, not only in lessons.
The Aarhus hub, Denmark guide and school profiles provide detailed official sources.
Friendly orientation, not formal admissions advice. Always confirm dates with the school.
Aarhus International School offers the IB Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes in English from age 3 to 16. All sections now share the Dalgas Avenue campus. It is a useful through-school for international families in Aarhus, but it does not offer the IB Diploma after MYP5.
AarhusÅrhus Privatskole is a small, one-form-entry Danish private day school in Viby. It is not Aarhus International School: teaching is in Danish, the school ends after Year 9, and a 500 DKK waiting-list payment does not guarantee admission.
CopenhagenCIS is Copenhagen’s large, established full-IB day school. Its Nordhavn campus offers the PYP, MYP and Diploma in English, but admission also depends on language readiness, support capacity and a nationality limit whose wording differs between two official sources.
OdenseChoose HHS for a Danish private-school education with languages introduced early. The semi-international English option adds mother-tongue teaching; it is not the English-medium Cambridge programme at Odense International School.
Start with the qualification your child would actually receive. Then check its subjects, language demands, and recognition in the countries where they may study next.
7 minStart with your child and the family's likely plans. Define the non-negotiables, verify the school's claims, compare three realistic options and visit with specific questions.
7 minTuition is only one line of the budget. Separate charges from advance payments, record what each figure includes, and ask the school to confirm your calculation in writing.
7 minA useful visit should help you picture your child’s school day and resolve the questions that matter to your family. Ask for concrete examples, then separate what you observed from what you were told.
