You cannot treat SIS like a neighbourhood friskola. The admissions pages require an “international connection.” Fees are public. A municipal skolpeng may reduce what you pay — the school says that is usual, not guaranteed.

Stockholm International School is a not-for-profit foundation with a volunteer Board of Trustees. Surplus, the fees page says, goes back into the school. It is a day school on two central sites, about 750 metres apart: primary at Johannesgatan 18, 111 38, and middle and upper school at Norra Latin, Drottninggatan 71B, 111 36. Phone: +46 8 412 40 00. The official website is stockholmis.se. A sports club sits on sis.nu. Stockholm city’s own pages list other international options, including the municipal International School of the Stockholm Region. Those are not this school. If a search result puts you on start.stockholm.se choosing a kommunal international school, you are in a different queue.
The homepage snapshot: 800+ students aged 3–19, 60+ nationalities, 93% of families would recommend SIS, 7:1 students to faculty, 4:1 students to all staff, 197 staff, two sites. It is marking a 75th anniversary. Interim Director named on the IB continuum page: David Osler.
The useful questions are Swedish. Does this child meet an international-connection test? Can they work in English? Will skolpeng actually arrive from your kommun — and what do you owe if it does not? And do you understand that SIS’s own grade table puts Grade 12 at age 17 on 31 August, which is not a Swedish gymnasium Year 3?

Those last two bullets are wider than “we are on a three-year posting.” They still require class-ready English. SIS is not a Swedish-immersion neighbourhood school that will teach a child English from zero in Grade 10.
Applications are reviewed against those criteria, sibling priority, and the date the file was submitted. Year-round. Accept an offer within 10 working days. If the class is full, you go on a waiting list; siblings already enrolled go first.
More than 80% of students and faculty are international, the admissions page says. English is the language of instruction. The outlook is “unmistakably global.” That is the school’s sentence. The practical sentence is: bring passports, and if you are diplomatic, the visa too.
It is a day school. There is no boarding house. Central Stockholm flats are the other half of the problem.
Two city buildings, not a green-field campus. The school says they are 400 metres from Stockholm’s central transport hub — a few minutes by tunnelbana, bus or pendeltåg from most of the region. Johannesgatan is the younger house. Norra Latin is the historic school building on Drottninggatan, with a grand aula, science labs, a drama studio, arts rooms, learning commons, and a canteen. Full-time kitchen staff serve a hot lunch on both sites; a daily menu is posted.
Ask to see an ordinary Grade 3 classroom and the Grade 6 corridor at Norra Latin, not only the aula. Ask where Grade 1 plays when it is dark at 15:00 in November. “City centre” is a gift for museums and a constraint for a football pitch. The campus page talks about outdoor areas and well-equipped sport. Walk them.
The jump from Johannesgatan to Norra Latin at Grade 6 is a real childhood event. The school sells continuity of IB philosophy across that walk. Ask how a timid eleven-year-old is actually accompanied in week one.
SIS calls itself an IB Continuum school: a consistent approach from Early Years through the Diploma, with named coordinators for PYP (Julia Wells Denney), MYP (Sean Logan) and DP (Anna-Maria Malm), plus a Head of Learning (Eric Beck).

Middle School (Grades 6–9) at Norra Latin. MYP.
Upper School (Grades 10–12) at Norra Latin. The continuum page describes the IB Diploma as the upper-school story. Grade 10 is already on the upper-school campus. Ask, in the room, whether Grade 10 is still MYP, already DP, or a bridge — the banding on the website is not the same as every other IB continuum school, and you want the live map.
Age on 31 August is the placement guide. Every file is still assessed individually.

There is no SIS Grade 13. A child who would be 18 on 31 August is off the table. Swedish gymnasium is three years; SIS upper school is not a copy of that. If you might later need a Swedish gymnasieexamen-shaped document, ask now.
Term dates for 2026–27 are public: Welcome Day 18 August 2026, first day 19 August, last day 11 June 2027, with the usual Swedish breaks (September days, autumn week, winter sport, Easter, Ascension). Graduation 4 June 2027.
English is the classroom. The admissions criteria assume the child can participate fully if English-at-home or “international outlook” is the ticket they use. That is a higher bar than “we speak some English at dinner.”
Swedish is the host-country language. Confirm hours, sets, and what a Grade 4 newcomer can do by Easter. Living in Norrmalm without Swedish is possible. It is also a smaller life.
Ask whether a mother-tongue course exists for your language this year, and what it costs.

Places are offered as they open. Accept in 10 working days. The enrolment-fee invoice comes through OpenApply with the offer; pay on receipt to confirm.
The criteria page also has collapsible “specific entrance requirements” for PYP, MYP and DP. Open those on the live page and read the one that matches your child. We are not guessing hidden grade bars.
Bring learning reports. SIS has a learning-support page for a reason. Ask, in the room, whether they can staff what your child needs.
Parents are wholly responsible for the published fees. A government contribution (skolpeng) is usually available through the local municipality toward the full cost of tuition. The important-information section on that page is the live explanation. Read it. Ask your kommun, and ask SIS what happens if the personnummer is late or the municipality pays less than the school expects. Do not budget as if skolpeng were a promise.

Early Years is more expensive than Grade 1 on this table. That is the school’s number, not a typing error. Ask what the Early Years fee includes (hours, meals, ratios) that Grade 1 does not.
A first-year Grade 6 is application + enrolment + tuition: 3,000 + 60,000 + 152,000 = 215,000 SEK before you know what skolpeng does to the family share, and before lunch extras, trips or support. The fees page says fees cover teaching, a low staff ratio, specialist support and a wide range of sports. Confirm what “cover” means for this year — lunch is cooked on site; ask whether it is inside the tuition.

The IB Diploma is the portable upper-school route the continuum page describes.
SIS presents PYP, MYP and DP as a continuum, with coordinators in post. If you need IB.org’s own authorisation ticks for a corporate form, ask SIS which programmes are fully authorised for this child’s year, and keep the answer. We are not adding a third-party directory.
Swedish university admission for an IB Diploma is a UHR / Antagning conversation. If a Swedish gymnasieexamen is what a later move needs, sit with the upper-school principal (Christine Öman on the continuum page) and walk it. Grade 12 at 17 is not gymnasium year 3.
The homepage points to a university-and-careers section. Use it. It is not a placement promise.
Specialist support is named as part of what fees cover. Psycho-educational reports are required when needs exist. Ask what SIS can staff, and whether an extra invoice appears. The 7:1 faculty ratio is a homepage figure, not a guarantee of one-to-one.
The Nepal Project and student playleaders are the public pictures of student life beyond the timetable. Ask what a quiet child does on a Tuesday, not only what a confident one does on a service trip.
Ask which international-connection bullet you are using, and whether class-ready English will be tested. Ask how full your grade is. Ask what skolpeng would do to this invoice if you receive a personnummer in October. Ask whether Grade 10 is MYP or DP this year. Ask how the Johannesgatan-to-Norra-Latin move is handled. Ask what Swedish looks like in Grade 4. Ask what happens if the posting ends in March. Ask to see Grade 5 and Grade 9.
Walk Drottninggatan at 07:45. Central is convenient. It is also crowded, icy, and full of tourists when you are late.
We are not saying SIS is the best school in Stockholm. We are not guessing a waitlist. We are not inventing a 2027–28 fee. We are not treating a city of Stockholm school-chooser page as this school’s admissions office.
Read the criteria, the fees page, and write to admissions before you give notice on a flat in another country. This is a map. The school still has to be the right Tuesday.
