UWC Adriatic offers the two-year IB Diploma in English for students aged 16–19. Admission is through a UWC National Committee, not a direct application. Its published €52,000 scholarship value is not a parental fee quotation.
United World College of the Adriatic is a co-educational residential school in Duino, on the coast north of Trieste in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Older staff notices place it about 25 km from Trieste. There is no separate campus. Classes, meals and accommodation occupy buildings throughout the Italian-Slovene village, including six residences. Students have considerable independence and must be comfortable taking responsibility in a shared community.
Founded in 1982, the college reports 184 students, 81 nationalities and 3,981 alumni on its homepage, alongside a 43-year history. Its September 2025 profile gives approximately 190 students from 80 countries. These are different institutional snapshots, not identical headcounts. That profile says all students receive scholarships and 75% receive full scholarships.
Students are aged 16–19 and study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) in English. Some have not previously studied in English. The only published non-residential exception is for staff children aged 16–19, who still undergo selection. This is not an option for younger children or a general day-school place.
UWC Adriatic does not accept direct applications. Start with the relevant UWC National Committee, the body handling selection for its country; the UWC movement’s website lists the committees. Check the committee’s eligibility rules and deadline rather than assuming nationality alone settles which route applies. Scholarship availability and places vary annually, and fees differ between UWC colleges.
The student handbook describes a very small number of parent-funded students admitted after National Committee or other UWC selection. This is not a direct-entry alternative. Scholarships can be reduced or withheld where there is no financial need. The handbook also says students can lose their place if they do not engage fully.
Living within Duino brings high expectations of social responsibility. Residence tutors and assistants support students, alongside personal tutors, a psychologist, a counsellor and second-year peer supporters. The medical centre has a weekday nurse, a small infirmary and a college doctor three afternoons a week. The emergency number is 112; ask separately about routine care outside those hours.
College news in May 2025 reported a renovated residence in the former Hotel Ples, opened with the regional president present. That report and the December 2025 governance document named Dr Khalid El-Metaal as rector and Roberto Antonione as college president.
The college’s April 2021 drone film shows the village setting, but is not a current facilities tour. Airport transport from Trieste is not confirmed in the reviewed material.

The 2026 joining documents specify Monday arrival for first-year students. Confirm individual travel arrangements with the college; the calendar allows arrivals to finish on Tuesday by 22:30.
The education page describes the majority as attending on full scholarships and values a scholarship for the entire two-year diploma at €52,000. It does not publish a full parental tuition or boarding tariff. That scholarship value is not a bill and should not be added to the expenses below.
The 2026 joining documents separately list costs for students to cover unless stated otherwise. Even with a full scholarship, confirm who will pay each item.

Travel, the roughly four-week winter break, university applications, dental and some medical expenses, and stationery are also listed without amounts. The deposit and first-year Project Week contribution total €600. Pay by transfer to the college account, identifying the student, before 25 August 2026, or in cash during the first two weeks. The deposit’s remaining balance is returned after the two-year course.
The college’s May 2025 results were an average IB score of 33.5 and a 92.4% pass rate; its comparison figures worldwide were 30.6 and 81.3%. The profile reports a 2015–2025 average of 35.1 points and a 97.5% pass rate. These are college-reported results, not a prediction for an individual applicant.
UWC Adriatic suits a student ready for two intensive IB years and relatively independent residential life in a village. The first practical step is to establish National Committee eligibility and whether that committee has a Duino place in the current cycle.

VareseEuropean School Varese is a multilingual day school for nursery, primary and secondary pupils. It follows the European Schools curriculum and leads to the European Baccalaureate. Admission priority depends on the family's category, and private applicants can be admitted only when places remain.

For 2026–27, the teaching site is Via della Libertà 2; the announced Zola Predosa campus is planned for September 2027.
