St. Kilian’s Deutsche Schule is a coeducational German-Irish day school in Clonskeagh for pupils aged 4–18. It is on Roebuck Road, D14 P7F2, and its official website is kilians.com. Its charity number is RCN 20007614. Contact the school on +353 1 2883323, or admissions at secretary@kilians.com and admissions@kilians.com.

St Kilian’s and Lycée Français International Samuel Beckett are separate schools on the same Eurocampus. Their pupils share Junior Cycle classes, but St Kilian’s continues towards the Irish Leaving Certificate while the lycée follows French qualifications.

It is a day school. There is no boarding house. There is no school bus. The FAQ says so, because there is no defined catchment.

The main fit question is whether you want the Leaving Certificate alongside substantial German learning. Entry without German is possible at some stages, but older applicants need the language level of their intended class. The entry rules below therefore matter as much as the qualification.

Who it is for

You do not need to be a German family to apply. German begins in Junior Infants, alongside the Irish curriculum. From 5th class, history and STEAM — science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics — are taught through German.

Kindergarten (Junior Infants) pupils must be 4 by 31 May of the year of entry. Pupils may enter primary at all levels without prior German. 7th class (1st Year) without German is possible if places permit. 8th–11th class needs German already equivalent to those classes.

The FAQ prints a class-size ceiling of 26, and often smaller groups in the German Curriculum Stream — an average of 15.

Campus and daily timetable

Kindergarten, primary and secondary share the Roebuck Road address. The secretary’s office is open 08:00–12:15 and 12:45–16:00; administration is open 08:00–13:30 and 14:00–16:00. These are office hours, not lesson times.

Kindergarten, Vorschule and primary to 2nd class finish at 12:50 every day. 3rd and 4th finish at 14:50 most days and 12:50 Wednesday and Friday. 5th and 6th run later on Monday (16:10). Secondary finishes at 16:10 Monday to Thursday and 12:50 on Friday.

There is a canteen. The FAQ retains post-Covid wording restricting its use to secondary pupils and asking younger children to bring lunch. Confirm the arrangements for the child’s year before starting.

The school names an Open Day 2026 on 19 September 2026, 11:00–13:00. The admissions page also says an annual open day in September and points at the calendar. The FAQ still mentions October and a Covid-era virtual day. We quote the dated 2026 banner. Confirm the live calendar.

Check the journey at the actual school start and finish times, particularly if siblings have different timetables. There is no school bus to bridge the gap.

How a child actually gets in

Kindergarten and primary. Applications can be made at any time. Submit the waiting-list form, a birth certificate and the €100 non-refundable administration fee through Easy Payment Plus. The FAQ says offers are made in October before the child is due to start. If applications exceed places, the Admissions Policy criteria apply.

Secondary 7th class (1st Year). The admissions page points to the Admission Notice for 2027/2028. For late 2026/27 applications, write to secretary@kilians.com. Do not use the next intake’s notice as the deadline for a late application to the current year.

Secondary 8th–11th class. Consult the 2027/28 Admission Policy for that intake. Contact the same office about 2026/27 entry.

The school does not offer scholarships on the FAQ we opened.

The FAQ describes strong demand and recommends applying early, but does not give a current waiting-list length.

Fees for 2026/27

The admissions page titles a 2026/2027 table.

Stage or charge Fee
Kindergarten €7,685
Primary €8,175
Secondary €7,870
Transition Year supplement €795

A family rebate applies when fees are paid on time: 10% for two children, 12.5% for three, and 15% for four or more. The Board reviews it annually. It does not apply to the Transition Year supplement.

The same page describes after-school care for kindergarten and primary. Secondary supervised study runs 16:10–18:00, Monday to Thursday. Its fees are published at the start of each school year; request the relevant year’s price.

Curriculum and shared classes

German is taught from Junior Infants alongside the Irish primary curriculum. Secondary pupils follow the Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate. The school describes its German Curricular Stream as an additional academic challenge.

Primary pupils study religion; senior-cycle pupils study Ethics and Philosophy. First Communion and Confirmation classes take place in the afternoons in 2nd and 6th class.

On the Eurocampus, St Kilian’s pupils share Junior Cycle classes with LFI pupils. Integration begins in 6th class through sport and social events. LFI’s programmes page says approximately two thirds of the mixed cohort comes from St Kilian’s. Ask which subjects your child would share and how the classes are organised.

The qualification routes separate after Junior Cycle. St Kilian’s prepares pupils for the Leaving Certificate. LFI offers the French Baccalauréat or its international version, the BFI. The BFI is not the IB Diploma.

Our view

Choose St Kilian’s for an Irish qualification route with sustained German learning, provided the child meets the language requirements for entry. The mixed Junior Cycle classes are a distinctive part of the programme; ask which subjects are shared and how pupils are supported.

Compare LFI Samuel Beckett for French upper-secondary qualifications on the same campus, St Andrew’s for an IB option, or St Columba’s if boarding is essential. These are different educational choices, not interchangeable versions of an international school.
