Oak House School is a co-educational day school for ages 3–18 in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, at Sant Pere Claver 12–18, 08017 Barcelona, beside Collserola. Its distinctive route combines British primary education, Catalan-system secondary education and a choice involving Bachillerato or the IB Diploma at 16–18.

It was founded in 1968 and describes itself as a private charitable foundation without shareholders. A governing board of seven parents oversees the school, and surpluses are reinvested. There is no boarding.

Educational fit

Oak House suits families who want English, Spanish and Catalan to remain part of the child’s education, rather than an exclusively English-speaking international route.

The early and primary provision uses a British curriculum; the school describes its early provision as British-authorised. The age bands published are 3–4 for early years and 5–11 for primary. Ask how the three languages are used at the child’s stage.

Secondary, ages 12–16, follows the Catalan system while also preparing pupils for Cambridge IGCSE, international secondary subject examinations, and Cambridge English qualifications. A fourth language, French or German, begins in the first year of ESO, Spain’s compulsory secondary stage.

At 16–18, the school offers Spanish Bachillerato and the IB Diploma, the latter taught in English. Confirm whether the proposed route involves one qualification or a combined plan, and which subjects are available. The school reports a 2025 IB average of 36; that describes one cohort, not the likely result of a new applicant.

Compare American School of Barcelona if a US High School Diploma is central to the plan. It is in Esplugues and follows a different route, even though it also offers IB. Benjamin Franklin International School is another local comparison for families examining international programmes.

Campus and services

Primary has its own building. The Bachillerato/IB building opened in 2015 and has a green roof. Visit the section the child will attend, especially secondary if moving from another language system.

The school lists bus routes serving Vila Olímpica, Gran Via/Plaça Espanya and Sant Cugat/the upper area. Confirm the current stops and prices with Autocares Mesa and test the journey from the actual home address.

Applying

The application process covers Reception through post-16 entry. After reviewing the file, the school may invite the child to an informal assessment with the Head of Studies and the Inclusion and Wellbeing Lead. Alternatively, there may be a formal academic assessment and interview covering mathematics, English, Spanish and, where required, Catalan.

If a place is available, an offer has a limited acceptance period. Otherwise, the school may notify the family of a waiting-list place. To accept, submit the required documents and pay the €3,500 admission-process fee.

Published priority groups are siblings of current pupils, staff children, children of former pupils and former pupils returning. Priority does not remove the requirement to access the curriculum. Reports and references are always requested. Application date and progress through the process are important allocation factors, alongside reports, languages and the family’s support for school values.

Fees and what is included

The public fees page did not provide an annual tuition amount in the research baseline. Request a current written schedule; the other published charges do not allow a complete annual budget.

Item Published charge or condition
Admission-process fee, on acceptance €3,500, non-refundable
Annual tuition 11 instalments: July, then September–June
Sibling reduction From the third child; rate not established here
Full annual payment Discount for bank transfer before the year begins; rate not published in the researched page
AFA, the family association €15 per family annually
Yearbook €38 per family annually
School-fee insurance for one parent €165.95 annually
School-fee insurance for both parents €272.65 annually

The school lists these as included:

  • Compulsory lunch.
  • Before- and after-school care from 08:00–09:00 and 16:20–18:15.
  • Day trips, but not overnight trips.
  • The first sitting, within the stipulated period, of the listed official examinations: Cambridge, Institut Français, Goethe-Institut, IGCSE, IB Diploma and official EBAU university-entry examination fees.

Uniforms, buses, extracurricular activities, school materials and overnight trips are separate. So are the insurance, family-association and yearbook charges above, and university applications requiring references or essay assistance.

School-fee insurance is compulsory. It covers tuition until the pupil finishes at Oak House if an insured parent dies or becomes permanently disabled. External policies are not accepted as a substitute. Ask whether one-parent or two-parent cover is appropriate and include the applicable premium.

Our view

Choose Oak House if its progression from British primary to Catalan secondary fits the child’s language development and the family wants a Bachillerato or IB option later. It is less suitable if the priority is avoiding substantial Spanish and Catalan schooling or maintaining a specifically American diploma route.
