Athens College and Psychico College belong to the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation (HAEF). The Foundation also runs the John M. Carras Kindergarten. This profile covers the group because admissions, fees and several services are shared.

These are Greek private schools, not English-medium international schools throughout. They follow the Greek national curriculum and lead to the Greek school-leaving certificate. The schools also use International Baccalaureate teaching frameworks in earlier years.

The two elementary schools are in Kantza. Junior High, High School, the kindergarten and the IB Diploma are associated with the Psychico campus. The admissions office is at 15 Stephanou Delta Street in Psychico.

All divisions are coeducational and day only. The official IB records also classify both schools as day schools. HAEF does not publish boarding, residential guardianship or a school-run visa service.

Programme structure

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is used in kindergarten and elementary school. HAEF says it organises the Greek national syllabus through inquiry and interdisciplinary units. It does not replace the national curriculum.

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) covers Grades 7–9 at Athens College. At Psychico College it continues through Grade 10. Both schools are authorised IB World Schools for PYP and MYP.

The separate IB Diploma Programme (DP) is taught in English at Psychico College High School. It covers Grades 11 and 12 and has been authorised since 1996. The school publishes more than 20 subject choices, although each pupil’s combination still depends on timetabling.

The Diploma route is open to applicants of any nationality who have completed an equivalent Grade 10. The school also requires adequate English, motivation and suitable study habits.

Choosing IB Year 1 limits a later change of programme. The school says an IB pupil cannot later transfer into Grade 11 of the Athens College or Psychico College Greek High School.

Admissions by entry point

HAEF uses different procedures at different ages. An expression of interest is not an offer, and the application portal says both parents’ consent is required for enrolment.

  • Pre-Kindergarten: applications are accepted from birth until 23 December in the year before entry. Entry is by separate general and alumni lotteries. The participation charge is €100.
  • Grade 1: applications are accepted from birth until 16 December in the school year before entry. There are general and alumni lotteries, followed by the school’s readiness assessment. The charge is €100.
  • Grade 4: entry depends on vacancies and ranked written tests in Greek, mathematics and English. Each test lasts 60 minutes and is marked out of 100. A pupil must score at least 50 in every paper. The charge is €120.
  • Grades 2, 3, 5 and 6: applications may be submitted, but testing is arranged only when places exist. The admissions office sends the details later.
  • Grades 7 and 10: applicants sit Greek, English and mathematics. Each paper lasts 75 minutes, is marked out of 100 and has a pass mark of 50. Failing any paper excludes the candidate. The charge is €120.
  • Grades 8 and 9: HAEF may announce tests if places become available. Its public page gives no routine route for other Greek High School years.
  • IB Year 1: applicants sit English, mathematics and General Knowledge/Critical Thinking. Each 75-minute paper has the same 50-out-of-100 minimum. The charge is €120.

For the tested routes, passing every paper does not guarantee admission. Places follow the total-score ranking and available capacity. HAEF does not allow an appeal, a retest or release of a candidate’s scripts.

For secondary and IB examinations, the online application is followed by an emailed terms form, a recent candidate photograph and payment. Candidates must bring the resulting participation form on examination day.

The administration assigns successful pupils to Athens College or Psychico College according to space. It gives priority to siblings already attending either school. Families may state a preference for elementary placement, but the administration makes the final decision.

Prescribed vaccinations under Greece’s national schedule are an enrolment condition.

Published dates

The latest public examination cycle is 2026–27. Grade 4, Grade 7, Grade 10 and IB Year 1 tests took place in Kantza on 21 March 2026. Applications closed on 20 February 2026.

The main event page gives the test time as 09:00–13:30. The regional-scholarship page says 09:00–13:00, so families should not use that older timetable for a future sitting.

As of 4 September 2026, HAEF had not published the 2027–28 test date or deadline. Ask admissions for the next notice rather than advancing the old dates by one year.

Assessment and support

For Grade 7 and Grade 10 tests, a learning disability must be certified by a public body. Eligible candidates receive 15 extra minutes per paper but no oral examination.

For IB admission, HAEF also accepts private certification from pupils coming from foreign schools. The adjustment is again extra time, not an oral examination.

The Psychoeducational Department lists psychologists, special educators, speech therapists and occupational therapists. It assesses learning and emotional needs and offers counselling and school programmes.

The public material does not say which individual needs the school can meet, how many support places are available or what therapy costs. It also does not publish a dedicated English-as-an-additional-language pathway. Families should send reports before testing and request a written support plan.

Greek is central to the national route and to most entrance tests. The IB Diploma instead requires adequate English. A family needing intensive language support should confirm what is available before accepting.

No current campus accessibility audit was found. Ask the school to check the pupil’s complete daily route, including transport, specialist rooms, toilets and evacuation arrangements.

Tuition and compulsory charges for 2026–27

These are the published annual tuition fees. They do not include transport, elementary lunch or the initial enrolment fee.

Year group Annual tuition
Pre-Kindergarten €14,950
Kindergarten €13,840
Grade 1 €13,340
Grades 2–6 €12,360
Grades 7–12, Greek programme €11,620
IB Diploma Years 1 and 2 €15,860

The one-time initial enrolment fee is €500. HAEF gives a 10% tuition reduction for the third and fourth child. It publishes 4%-reduced tuition, lunch and bus charges for payment by 31 August. Otherwise, payment is in three instalments.

The elementary lunch programme costs €1,340, or €1,286 with the upfront reduction. The table also lists a €300 usage fee without explaining its purpose or eligibility. Obtain the applicable lunch charge in writing.

Transport costs for 2026–27

HAEF coordinates buses through external companies. Routes are planned separately for each school unit, and the school says buses have trained chaperones.

Full return route Standard fee Upfront fee
General bus, Zone A €1,854 €1,780
General bus, Zone B €2,112 €2,028
General bus, Zone C €2,369 €2,274
General bus, Zone D €2,575 €2,472
Kindergarten bus, Zones A and B €2,421 €2,324
Kindergarten bus, Zone C €2,833 €2,720
Kindergarten bus, Zone D €3,245 €3,115

The third- and fourth-child reduction also applies to bus fees. The fee table does not publish one-way prices. Confirm the child’s actual stop, school unit and zone before budgeting.

Scholarships, payment and withdrawal

Need-based support covers 10% to 100% of tuition for one school year. Families must reapply annually. Kindergarten pupils cannot receive it, and it cannot be combined with another HAEF scholarship or the upfront and third-child discounts.

The scholarship portal says the 2026–27 application period has ended. It does not yet give a 2027–28 application window.

For external entrants in 2026–27, Grade 7 merit awards required at least 270/300. Two covered full tuition and eight covered 25%. Grade 10 offered one full and four 25% awards at the same threshold.

Regional Grade 10 scholarships cover tuition, textbooks and the bus in full. HAEF may assess an additional accommodation amount where need is documented. This is financial help, not a place in a school boarding house.

The current fee page warns that unjustified payment delay can lead to legal action and refusal of enrolment in the next school division. It does not publish a current withdrawal notice period or refund schedule.

The registration-terms PDF still linked by HAEF is explicitly labelled 2020–21. It cannot establish the 2026–27 withdrawal liability. Obtain the current signed terms, including cancellation, refund and mid-year withdrawal rules, before paying.

Our take

Athens College suits families seeking a Greek national education with PYP and MYP teaching frameworks. For the final two school years, the main alternative is the English-medium IB Diploma at Psychico College.
