This is not International School of Helsinki. It is a City of Espoo comprehensive on the Opinmäki campus — English-medium, Finnish national curriculum, IB MYP in grades 7–9. It is meant for families living in Espoo and Kauniainen. The 2026–27 application windows sit on the city’s own page. There is no international invoice.

Espoo International School — EIS — is a City of Espoo comprehensive on the Opinmäki campus, not a fee-paying international. Official page espoo.fi — Espoo International School. It is co-ed. It is a day school. There is no boarding house.
It is not the International School of Helsinki. It is not The English School. It is not SYK. It is not HRSK. If a pack says “the Espoo international,” ask which legal name is on the door — EIS or Kivimies International School, which is another English-language municipal house.
The useful questions are Finnish. Do you live in Espoo or Kauniainen? Can this child sit an English entrance examination? And do you understand that this is peruskoulu in English, ending at grade 9, not an IB Diploma campus?

The school page: about 600 pupils in grades 1–9. English for international and Finnish families living in Espoo. Finnish National Curriculum in every grade. The city’s English-language page: this is weighted-curriculum education, not a lähikoulu right. Pupils admitted here are not eligible for school transport benefit. A younger sibling has no sibling right to the same school.
It will not suit a family who need a preschool-to-Diploma international invoice in Ruoholahti, or a municipal Finnish yard that already knows the street. Walk ISH or the assigned lähikoulu if that is the climate. They share a capital region and almost no Monday.
Lillhemtintie, Opinmäki, Espoo — not Ruoholahti and not Munkkivuori. Time that bus from the flat you will actually rent.
The school page names afternoon activities, student welfare, anti-bullying support, and home–school cooperation as their own headings. We will not invent those hours or those euros.
If a child does not pass the English proficiency entrance exam, and cannot speak Finnish beyond simple words, the same page points to preparatory education in Espoo. That is another municipal door, not a private catch-up product.
This is a City of Espoo application year, not OpenApply. Read English-language education before you fill a form.
A pupil may apply for a permanent place or a temporary place. The admission-criteria PDF in force from 1 January 2026: temporary places last a maximum of three school years, the first of which is the year the child starts.
Permanent places from the beginning of the next school year: an entrance examination. That PDF: an English test (0–30) and a linguistic-skills test (0–45). The applicant must reach the minimum scores the committee set — at least the English floor the PDF prints. We will not invent a cut-off the extract did not make a single line.
Temporary places, and some mid-year files: admission can rest on previous English-language education — at least one school year immediately before applying, or, for grade 1, in the current school year. Attach the certificate.

Those January windows have already closed. The May–June window may still matter for a mid-year file. Confirm live. We will not invent a 2027 timetable the pages we opened did not print.
Kivimies is the other English-language municipal house. Same city rules. Different yard. Ask which school the application actually names.

This is a municipal comprehensive. There is no international tuition table. Finnish peruskoulu does not send a Geneva invoice.
The city is explicit about what you do not get: no school-transport benefit, no sibling right. Afternoon activities have their own heading on the school page. Lunch, hobbies and trips are not priced there. Ask. We will not invent them.
Grade 9 of Finnish basic education. Then a separate lukio, vocational, or IB door — Ressu, SYK, ISH, or a neighbourhood lukio. EIS’s own MYP is not the IB Diploma. The school says it gives the knowledge, skills and English needed for further education in English. Treat that as the city’s sentence, not a university promise we calculated.
Ask whether you actually live in Espoo or Kauniainen. Ask whether this is a grade-1 January file, a grade-7 file, a grade-4 / temporary May file, or a mid-year seat. Ask how much Finnish a shy nine-year-old will really have by the second spring — the classroom is English; the city is Finnish. Ask what happens if the posting ends in November: this is a Finnish school year, and a temporary place has a three-year ceiling. Ask which house — EIS or Kivimies — the form names.
We are not ranking EIS against ISH. We are not guessing a waitlist. We are not calling this a private international.
