Choosing a school in Milan: two English-medium routes

Milan’s two schools in this guide are both English-medium day schools, but they sit on different parts of the city and have different secondary structures.

American School of Milan is in Noverasco di Opera, south of Milan. It follows an American progression and offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma alongside its US-accredited high-school diploma. It has no boarding.

British School of Milan, formerly Sir James Henderson School, is on Via Pisani Dossi in north-east Milan. It follows British stages through IGCSE, then the IB Diploma. It is a not-for-profit day school. Lunch and bus services are billed by third parties, outside tuition. The school’s directions place it near Udine and Lambrate stations, not Niguarda.

Choose ASM when American grade continuity or its own diploma matters. Choose BSM when British progression into IGCSE matters. Both can lead to IB, so “we want IB” does not settle the earlier years.

Request the current fee schedule from each school. BSM’s 2026–27 document distinguishes private and corporate payers. ASM’s public page linked a separate fee file when reviewed; do not use an amount without confirming its year.

Also compare an Italian liceo if the family may stay. An international qualification and the Italian maturità create different language demands and transitions.

Test each commute from the intended home during a school morning. Opera and north-east Milan are not one catchment. The Milan hub and Italy guide place both options in the wider system.
