Founded in 1969 for the British expatriate community, the history page says it now also educates a more internationally-minded Italian community. Snapshots disagree slightly, which is useful honesty: the history page says over 700 pupils and around forty nationalities; the home page counters print 780 students, 150+ teachers, 50+ nationalities. Treat those as school-printed pictures, not a census you can take to a landlord.

This is not the American School of Milan on Via Karl Marx in Noverasco. ASM is south of the city, American diploma plus IB, a different ring-road Tuesday. BSM is a single campus in the north, English National Curriculum to 16, IB in the Sixth Form for every sixth-former. They share a Milan and almost no Monday. Families who walk one should walk the other, then a liceo paritario if the next five years may still be Italian.

The useful questions are: Can you live with a northern-Milan school run? Do you want a British IGCSE week and then the IB, or an American high-school paper? And have you read the fee PDF that says lunch and the bus are not the school’s invoice?

Who it is for

Families who want a British-style day school in Milan from Nursery to Year 13, and who can accept that the leaving paper in the Sixth Form is the IB Diploma, not A-Levels. The history page is blunt: all sixth-formers pursue the IB, a programme the school says it has delivered for a decade.

The admissions page calls the school academically non-selective. That is the school’s sentence. It still asks for an interview, reports, a reference, and assessments in English and Mathematics, and it still depends on a place existing in the year group.

It will not board anyone. If you need an American campus and an MSA diploma, walk ASM. If you need a maturità, walk a paritaria. BSM is English in the classroom. Italian exists as an extra the fee PDF invoices separately.

The home page prints marketing medals — “top IB school in Italy,” “top 50 in the world,” ISI Excellent. We will not turn those into our ranking. ISI Excellent is a UK inspectorate stamp the school claims as unique in Milan. Ask to see the current report. The IB average the home page prints is 37.3. That is one number on a homepage, not a promise.

The campus you can actually picture

One site. Via Pisani Dossi, in the northern part of the city — Niguarda weather, not the Duomo. The history page calls it a safe, well-located campus with small classes. The fee PDF’s letterhead is the address you navigate to.

Ask to see Year 7 and the IB corridor, not only the hall. Time the gate from the flat you will actually rent. November rain on the tangenziale is the honest tour. The school does not run the bus; a third-party company does, with costs published before the new year. Same sentence for lunch.

How the years are organised

English National Curriculum from 3 to 16, IGCSE in Year 11, IB Diploma in the Sixth Form. The home page also prints 100% 9–4 IGCSE grades and 100% university entry. School-stated snapshots. Not a forecast.

Music and art are a point of pride on the history page. Co-curricular life, on the home counters: 100+ after-school activities. The fee PDF prices a general club at €187 per club per term, and says the co-curricular brochure is the live list.

Italian Year-end examinations, the PDF says, are taken at an Italian school. Ask the Italian department how that works for this child if you might later need an Italian paper.

How a child actually gets in

The admissions process names four pieces: interview; reports and a reference from the current school; assessments in English and Mathematics; availability.

For Year 10 and Year 12 entry in September 2027, the same page prints a timetable. Birth windows: Year 10, 1 September 2012–31 August 2013; Year 12, 1 September 2010–31 August 2011. Registration and subject-choice deadline extended to 15 September 2026. Exams: Year 10 on Thursday 1 October 2026; Year 12 on Tuesday 6 October 2026. Interviews in October 2026. Offers by email. Acceptance within two weeks.

An entrance assessment and SEN test are €400, payable in advance, then deducted from the registration fee if a place is confirmed — that line is in the 2026–27 PDF.

The school’s own FAQ on the admissions page asks whether waiting lists exist. We will not invent the answer. Ask admissions for this year group.

Money, as the 2026–27 PDF printed it

The official document is School Fees and Financial Regulations 2026–2027. If it disagrees with the service contract (Contratto di prestazione di servizi scolastici 26–27), the contract wins. Confirm the live PDF before you budget.

Tuition payment split: 40% by 31 May, 30% by 31 October, 30% by 31 January.

Not in the tuition: lunch (third party, price published later); bus (third party); compulsory educational trips; IGCSE (benchmark for 2025–26: €1,000–€1,300); IB exams (benchmark for 2025–26: €1,200). Those exam lines are last year’s benchmarks. The PDF says both will be billed once confirmed.

EAL is extra and only if the child receives it. Senior levels A–E run €3,000 down to €800 per term. Primary gold/silver/bronze: €3,000 / €2,100 / €1,200 per term. Italian and Italian mathematics are also extra (primary once a week €285 per term; twice €475; senior Year 7–8 €820; Year 9 €900).

Withdrawal notice: 31 August / 31 December / 31 March, or a €3,000 penalty. Overdue by 15 days: the PDF says a pupil may be excluded until fees and 3% annual interest are paid.

A first-year Year 7 private place is not “about €21,100.” It is registration + the annual band + lunch + the bus if you need it + EAL if the school says so. Do the sum on the live PDF.

What to ask on the stairs

Ask whether this child is a private or a corporate invoice. Ask what EAL would actually cost in the first term. Ask how Italian a new twelve-year-old meets if you might stay. Walk ASM in Noverasco in the same week. Walk a paritaria if the maturità is even a maybe.

What we are not claiming

We are not ranking BSM as the best IB school in Italy. We are not treating a homepage 37.3 as a forecast. We are not inventing a 2026–27 lunch or bus euro the school has not yet printed. We are not calling this the same childhood as Noverasco. Read the current PDF and the service contract before you sign a northern-Milan lease. This is a map. The school still has the file.
