Oeiras International School is a co-educational, not-for-profit IB day school in Barcarena, in the municipality of Oeiras. The official site is ois.pt — the school moved to that domain in 2021. An older address, oeirasinternationalschool.com, still appears in older maps; use ois.pt. Switchboard +351 211 935 330. Mobile +351 912 603 065. Admissions admissions@ois.pt. Founded in 2010, the fees page says; the quinta history page says the school moved to Quinta da Nossa Senhora da Conceição in September 2011. The house is a 17th-century palace on land leased from the municipality. Home-page counters: 463 students, teacher–student 1:6, average class 16, 48+ nationalities, 104 staff, 5 hectares. Treat those as the snapshot the school printed, not a promise for your child’s year.
This is not St. Julian’s in Carcavelos, and it is not CAISL in Linhó. St. Julian’s is a long British-and-bilingual habit by the water. CAISL is an American campus that makes Portuguese a core subject. OIS is an IB continuum in a valley — PYP, MYP, DP — and, from September 2026, three sites. They share a train line and almost no Monday. Families who walk one should walk the other two, then a Portuguese colégio if you might stay.
The useful questions are: Which of the three Barcarena buildings will this child actually stand in? Can you live with a valley commute that is not the beach? And have you added the €5,000 capital levy to the first-year sum?
Families who want the full IB path in the Oeiras stretch, and who can accept a school that says it is not academically selective. That sentence is on the home page. It still asks for a placement test.
It will suit a family that likes a green campus with a river, a kitchen garden, and — the campus page is not shy — donkeys and goats. It will not suit a family hunting a Carcavelos palace by the sand, or an American diploma as the main paper.
There is no boarding house. Books, the admissions FAQ says, are included in the fees.
From September 2026 the school prints three environments, about seven minutes apart, in one Barcarena valley. Oeiras is about 15 minutes by car from Lisbon and the airport, the campus page says. Confirm which building this child uses; the contact page and the campus essay do not use identical year-group labels.
PYP campus (contact page: Years 1 & 2) — Rua 7 de Junho n.º 5, 2730-174 Barcarena. The home page flags Year 1 opening for 2026/27. Ask admissions whether this child is in that building or still on the quinta.
Quinta campus (contact page: Years 3–9) — Quinta da Nossa Senhora da Conceição, Rua Antero de Quental n.º 7, 2730-013 Barcarena. A Portuguese quinta is a farm. The school keeps it that way: woodland, a river, a mini farm, bees, a swimming pool, a sports pavilion, a historic chapel, a restored palace that holds the library, administration, science, art and music. The campus page also describes a white-and-orange building for lunch and computers, and a PYP building for Years 2–4. Those sentences sit beside the three-site map. Ask to walk the year group, not only the palace.
Horizon campus (Years 10–13, from September 2026) — Rua Humberto Madeira n.º 7, 2730-097 Barcarena. New senior site. The school’s own language is independence and university preparation. Ask whether Year 10 has actually moved, and what the corridor looks like in the first term of a new building.
Time the gate from the flat you will actually rent. Cascais, Estoril, Sintra, Parede and Lisbon are on the school’s own bus list. F. Irmãos is the named transport provider.
IB World School. Home-page ages: PYP 6–10, MYP 11–16, DP 17–18. The 2026–27 fee table bills Years 1–4 as Pre-PYP and PYP 1–3, then PYP 4 and 5, MYP 1–5, DP 1 and DP 2. Year 13 is billed as two terms only, same annual total as DP 1.
The school says students have consistently achieved IB results above the global average. That is the school’s claim. We will not invent a 2026 average the public pages did not print as a table.
Registration of interest is the official path.
Applications are rolling if a space exists. Applications for each year, the OpenApply copy says, open in September the year before. Ask which month this year group actually opened.
The fees page prints Fees 2026–2027. Amounts are invoiced by term. Confirm that table before you budget. Late payment: 4% legal tax, then possible suspension of services.
Registration / term / year
Capital levy (one-time, non-refundable, new students): one child €5,000; two new siblings the same year €7,500; three or more €8,500. Current OIS families enrolling a new student: 10% off that levy. The school says it pays for facilities.
Also billed: application €250; insurance €20 per student; yearbook €40 per family; Y11 MYP exams €900 with Term II; Y13 DP exams €900 with Term II.
Payment clock: registration 1 February; Term I 1 July; Term II 1 December; Term III 1 April. A billing-schedule table on the same page also prints invoice months of June / November / March. Ask accounts which clock they are using this year. Once registration is complete, Term I is due even if the child does not come. Withdrawal needs one term’s written warning to the Principal, or those fees stay due.
Discounts on term fees only: second child 5%; third 15%; fourth and after 25%; full year paid before 1 July 2026 2.5% (extended to 31 August only for families who register between 1 July and 31 August 2026). Miss the schedule and discounts fall away. Non-payment can hold reports and exam results for the whole family or employer.
Bus, per term (F. Irmãos): one way €450 / €500 / €550 by zone; return €770 / €845 / €880. Mornings arrive 8:00–8:15. Afternoons leave 16:00 and 17:30.
Lunch: Thomas Franks is the new catering partner. The meal the page prints is €7 — soup, main (meat, fish or vegetarian), fruit, salad bar. We will not invent a termly canteen total from that daily figure.
A first-year Year 6 place is not “about €17,370.” It is application + capital levy + registration + three terms + insurance + the bus if you need it. Do the sum on the live page.
Ask which of the three addresses this child would use in the first week of September 2026. Ask how a Year 9 on the quinta becomes a Year 10 on Horizon. Ask how much Portuguese the lanche still speaks. Walk St. Julian’s and CAISL in the same week. Walk a Portuguese colégio if you might stay.
We are not ranking OIS among IB schools. We are not inventing a 2026 Diploma average. We are not flattening the three Barcarena sites into one palace photograph. We are not calling this the same childhood as Carcavelos or Linhó. Read the current fees and OpenApply pages before you sign a Barcarena lease. This is a map. The school still has the file.
