The International School of Zug and Luzern is a co-educational English-medium day school on two campuses in the canton of Zug, plus a mountain chalet the home page names. Official site iszl.ch. It is a non-profit.
Zug Campus — Early Years, Primary, Middle School — Walterswil 1, 6340 Baar. The home page says about 800 students, ages 3–14, around the 17th-century Wettinger House.
Riverside Campus — High School, Grades 9–12 — Rothusstrasse 4b. The campus page prints both 6331 and 6330 Hünenberg. About 400 students, ages 14–18. Switchboard on that page: +41 41 768 29 00, office.riverside@iszl.ch. 17 km from the Baar campus. Zürich Airport, the same page says, is about 40 minutes by car.
It is not Zurich International School in Wädenswil and Adliswil. Same country. A different lake story. Do not put this house on a Zurich city-hub card.
It is a day school. There is no boarding house on the pages we opened.
The home page’s own snapshot: 1,179 students, ages 3 to 18, 60 nationalities, since 1961. 131 clubs; more than 70 competitive sports teams. Treat those as the school’s sentences.
The useful questions are: Baar or Hünenberg for this child? IB Diploma, the school’s own High School Programme with AP or BTEC, or a mix? Can you live with a Zug commute in January? And have you opened the 2026/27 enrolment form — the franc table is there.
Who it is for
Families whose life is Zug, Baar, Hünenberg, or the valley that thinks in those trains — not a Zurich lakeside that happens to be “about forty minutes.”
High School, the academic page says, offers two paths to an ISZL High School Diploma: the IB Diploma Programme, or the ISZL High School Programme (AP courses, ISZL courses, a BTEC Diploma in Creative Media, and IB Diploma courses). Everyone, the school says, still graduates with the ISZL diploma, which it describes as NEASC-accredited. That accreditation sentence lives in the body on purpose. We are not tagging this portrait as an American school just to wave NEASC.
It will not suit a family hunting a Zurich day campus, or a Swiss bilingual Matur house, or a boarding corridor on a lake. Walk those portraits if that is the climate.
The home page prints 36.0 as an IB average. That is the school’s number on a home page. We are not ranking ISZL against ZIS.
The campus you can actually picture
Baar is rural on the school’s telling — Wettinger House and modern buildings. Hünenberg Riverside has twenty-plus classrooms, labs, a library, art and music rooms, a triple gym, and space in Seeblick and Alpenblick. The nearest station named is Hünenberg Zythus. A mountain chalet, Bergheim, sits in the outdoor-education copy.
Time Walterswil and Rothusstrasse on the same wet Tuesday if this child will change campus at Grade 9. Seventeen kilometres is not a footnote.
We will not invent a hectare count.
How the years are organised
- Primary, ages 3–11 — IB Primary Years Programme
- Middle, ages 11–14 — IB Middle Years Programme
- High School, ages 14–18 / Grades 9–12 — MYP in 9–10 (eight or nine subjects, at least two languages); then IB DP or the ISZL High School Programme in 11–12
EAL is named for students who arrive without English as a first classroom language.
How a child actually gets in
Write to admissions from iszl.ch. We will not invent a closing date, a waitlist length, or a testing battery the pages we opened do not print as a public sequence. The 2026/27 enrolment form is the money document. Ask which campus this age actually sits on, and whether a Grade 11 arrival can still build a full Diploma.
The enrolment and fees form (dated 27 January 2026 on the file we opened) prints the following tuition for 2026/27. Lunch, bus, College Board / AP / IB exam fees, and optional trips are not included.

Enrolment is for the whole school year. Pay within 30 days of the invoice, or in 2, 3, 4 or 8 instalments if you are a private payer and have arranged it with billing@iszl.ch. Instalments carry CHF 200 per child per year. Overdue fees: 12% interest per year. Families who enrol after August 2026 may have fewer payment options.
We will not invent a capital levy the form does not print.
What we are not claiming
We are not ranking ISZL against ZIS. We are not putting this campus on the Zurich city hub. We are not treating 36.0 as a league score. We are not calling NEASC an American curriculum. We are not inventing lunch or bus.
Stairs questions
Ask which campus this child stands in on a wet Tuesday — especially at the Grade 8 to 9 jump. Ask whether the file is IB Diploma or the High School Programme, and what universities you care about do with AP-plus-ISZL versus a full Diploma. Ask how much German a new twelve-year-old actually meets after lunch in Baar.
Time Baar and Hünenberg in January. Then walk Wädenswil only if Zurich is the real life.
The Zurich hub is a different Tuesday. The Switzerland country page is the wider walking list.
