The American School of Warsaw is a not-for-profit, English-language day school in Bielawa, in the gmina of Konstancin-Jeziorna. The address is ul. Warszawska 202, 05-520. The switchboard is +48 22 702 8500. Admissions: admissions@aswarsaw.org. Secure parking is on campus.
Use aswarsaw.org. A different school in Wrocław uses a similar acronym on another domain. The old library catalogue host is not the homepage. If a search result puts you in Silesia, you are in the wrong city.
ASW was founded in 1953. The about page calls that 72 years of English-language international schooling in Warsaw. It is an authorised IB World School and NEASC-accredited, and a member of CEESA, CIS and SCIS. It says it is the only IB Continuum school in Warsaw: PYP (Pre-K–5), MYP (6–10), DP (11–12), plus an American High School Diploma. A student’s course of study must finish before their 21st birthday.
The useful questions are local. Can this child work in English? Will they actually meet Polish children, or only see the city from a bus down Warszawska? Can you pay both currencies on time? And do you understand that “mild” learning support is in the tuition, while “moderate,” “intense” and “specialized” are priced extras?
Who it is for
ASW talks about being Affirming, Safe and Welcoming. It is a college-preparatory Pre-K–12 campus for diplomatic, corporate and internationally mobile families, and for local families who want an English IB continuum and can pay the dual bill.
Admissions decisions follow space and the Admissions Policy priorities. The join page is frank about waitlists: class sizes, nationality limits, and seats in Learning Support are capped. Ask what those nationality limits are for this year. We are not inventing the percentages the public page does not print.
A Corporate Partnership is an eight-year contract: higher admissions priority and waived registration fees, among other benefits. Write admissions if an employer might sign that. It is not a family discount you assume at the kitchen table.
At research, ASW was still accepting 2026–27 applications, with spaces limited. Open houses on the admissions page: Early Years 8 October 2026, Elementary 5 November 2026, all-school 17 February 2027.
It is a day school. Boarding is not advertised. If the posting has not found a flat on the south side, this campus will not absorb the child.
The campus you can actually picture
Bielawa is green, residential, and a real commute from the centre. Konstancin is the spa-town neighbour. The school names arts as integral, a well-resourced performing and visual-arts programme, year-round athletics, and a long habit of community service. Homepage tiles mention a laptop learning environment and a faculty that is largely from the US and Canada; the public extract did not give us a clean current headcount. Ask for this year’s enrolment if you need a number.
Ask to see an ordinary Grade 3 classroom and the cafeteria, not only the gym. Ask where Grade 9 waits for the bus when it snows. January on Warszawska is not the October open house.
How the day is organised
Pre-K to Grade 5. IB Primary Years Programme, from age 3 in Pre-K through age 11 in Grade 5. Pre-K, Pre-K4, Kindergarten and Grade 1 are placed strictly by age on the school’s chart.
Grades 6–10. IB Middle Years Programme. Grade 6 (about 11) sits in Middle School; the MYP finishes in Grade 10 (about 16) in the High School.
Grades 11–12. Students may take the IB Diploma. They also work toward the American High School Diploma. The DP is a choice, not an automatic lock. Ask how many Grade 11s are on the full Diploma this year.
Placement in Grades 2–12 uses age, development and previous school. The student should have completed the equivalent American grade before moving up; if they have not, they repeat that grade at ASW. The principal decides after the file is reviewed.
English is the language of instruction. Students entering from the second semester of Grade 9 through Grade 12 may sit a WIDA English assessment. The school will tell you if that is required.
Languages
English is the classroom. An EAL programme is a condition of enrolment for new students in Grades 1–12 who qualify on the Language Programme Policy and the school’s tests. The fee is one-time, on entry: 19,500 PLN. Kindergarten children who continue into Grade 1 are not charged that EAL fee.
Host-country Polish is the language of the shop and the tram. Ask how Polish is taught — hours, sets, whether a Grade 4 newcomer can buy bread by Easter. We are not inventing a Polish-for-all rule the extractable pages did not print.
If your home language is not English, ask whether a mother-tongue option exists this year, and what it costs. The homepage mentions home and family languages; that is not the same thing as a timetabled course.
How a child actually gets in
The join page’s shape is ordinary: complete application, committee review of records, teacher questionnaires and grade placement, then an offer or a waitlist. Applications in by the priority deadline are reviewed first. After that, decisions continue year-round when space appears.
Waiting-list reasons the school names: class size, nationality limits, Learning Support capacity.
Re-enrolment for the next year includes a Board Chair tuition letter and a non-refundable seat deposit of 12,000 PLN, credited to tuition if you stay. For 2026–27 the announcements page asked for that deposit by 19 February 2026. Miss it and the seat can go to a new family.
A course of study must end before the 21st birthday. Do the arithmetic if you are placing a student who has already repeated a year.
Money, as the 2026–27 fees page prints it
ASW is not-for-profit; tuition funds operations. Lunch and the school bus are not included. Tuition does include textbooks, everyday supplies, field trips, most after-school activities, IB exams, and mild learning support. You pay USD and PLN. The payer covers transfer and exchange costs so the school receives the full invoiced amounts. Transfers only; no card story on that page.
Application: USD 150 or 600 PLN, non-refundable. The file is not processed until it is paid. Payment does not guarantee a place. If you stay active on a waitlist from a prior paid application, you are not charged again (updated documents may be required).

Those higher levels come with an Individual Learning Plan. Student Support Services explains what each level means. Agree it in the room.
Other named costs: late payment 700 PLN per invoice; 2,000 PLN administration for four equal instalments or a special plan; replacement cost for lost laptops, books, equipment. Optional: SAT, independent studies, laptop insurance, PE kit, some after-school activities, extra exit packets, sports-trip travel.
Payment dates on the fees page: annual in one payment 1 June; two instalments 1 June and 2 November; four instalments 1 June, 3 August, 2 November, 15 January (admin fee applies). Seat deposit 17 February on that table — confirm the live date against the announcements letter.
Unpaid fees can mean exclusion from class, withheld reports and exam results, or loss of the place. Over 30 days overdue can stop attendance.

If you have not paid in full by the due date, the invoiced amount stays due. Withdrawal is valid only by email to admissions and a completed withdrawal form.
A first-year Grade 6, paid by a family who is not on a corporate partnership, is application + USD 8,000 registration + USD 12,648 + 76,560 PLN, plus EAL if it applies (19,500 PLN), before lunch and the bus. Do that sum with the live invoice, not with this page alone.
Leaving certificates
The IB Diploma is the portable two-year route in Grades 11–12.
The American High School Diploma is the school’s accredited leaving certificate, sitting beside or instead of the full Diploma depending on the student’s programme.
Ask the counsellor how each paper is read in Poland, in the US, and in the UK. We are not printing a matura-equivalence rule the extractable pages did not print. If a Polish public university is possible, walk it with this child’s subjects.
Homepage tiles have mentioned an IB DP pass rate for 2023. Confirm the current figure with the IB office. We are not treating an old tile as this year’s forecast.
Support
Mild support is in the tuition. Moderate, intense and specialized are priced, planned, and monitored. Nationality limits and support seats can put a child on a waitlist even when the grade is not “full” in the ordinary sense. Bring current reports. Full disclosure is the only safe path.
EAL is a programme with a one-time złoty fee, not a free extra.
What to ask on the stairs
Ask whether your grade is open for 2026–27, and where you sit in the priority order. Ask what the nationality limit is this year. Ask whether EAL and WIDA would apply. Ask how many Grade 11s are on the full Diploma. Ask what “moderate” support would cost, in the room, with the reports on the table. Ask how the bus works from your address — we do not have a school-run price. Ask what happens if the posting ends in November (the refund table is the answer). Ask to see Grade 5 and Grade 9.
Drive Warszawska at 07:20 once. Bielawa is not a downtown campus.
What we are not claiming
We are not saying ASW is the best school in Warsaw. We are not guessing enrolment. We are not treating CIS membership as full CIS accreditation — the about page says member of CIS. Confirm the live accreditation list.
Read the fees page and write to admissions before you give notice on a flat in another country. This is a map. The school still has to be the right Tuesday.
