The American School of Paris is a private international day school in Saint-Cloud, on the western edge of Paris. The official website is asparis.org. The admissions office answers at admissions@asparis.fr and +33 (0)1 41 12 86 55, weekdays 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. The campus address the visit page prints is 41 Rue Pasteur, 92210 Saint-Cloud.
It was founded in 1946. The inquire page calls it one of the most established private international schools in Paris and talks about nearly eighty years of global families. We are not ranking ASP. We are saying the school has been here a long time, and that the domain you want is .org, not a fee directory.
It is a day school. The inquire FAQ is blunt: no boarding house. There is a school bus for Paris and the western suburbs. If the posting has not found a flat, ASP will not absorb the child.
The homepage currently prints a 5-hectare campus “minutes from Paris,” more than 60 after-school clubs, and families from more than 60 nationalities. The inquire page repeats 60+ nationalities and ages 3–18. Treat those as the school’s own snapshot.
The useful questions are not “is it the American school.” The useful questions are: Can this child work in English by Grade 4? Do you understand that ASP is not a bilingual school, even though French is taught every day in Lower School? Can you pay the capital assessment as well as tuition? And do you want an American diploma with IB, AP, or both — because those are three different Tuesdays in Grades 11 and 12.
Families relocating to Paris who want a fully English-speaking American-style path from preschool to Grade 12, with optional IB and AP in the upper years, and who can live within a day-school radius of Saint-Cloud — or who will pay for the bus.
It is not a French lycée. It is not the sections internationales. Core instruction is in English. French is a subject: daily from Lower School, every other day in Middle and Upper School, the inquire FAQ says. Additional language pathways exist later. If you need a child who can sit the French bac, this is the wrong portrait.
It is also a school that prints its money. The 2026/27 tuition page is unusually complete: application, tuition by band, capital, security, EAL, learning support, buses, and a partial-year refund table. Financial assistance, the same page says, is only for current families in temporary difficulty. There are no need-based or merit scholarships for applicants. Budget as if you will pay the schedule.
Saint-Cloud is not the 7th arrondissement. It is a western suburb with a park, a forest edge, and a train into Paris. On-campus visits last about one hour with an Admissions Officer. Virtual visits exist if you are not yet in France. Visitor parking is available; the visit page also mentions bus and train.
The homepage and inquire page describe a renovated campus: arts, film and design studios; robotics and STEAM labs; theatre and music spaces; science and innovation hubs; sports fields; outdoor classrooms connected to the Saint-Cloud forest. The homepage’s “5-hectare” line is the figure we will keep, because that is what the English home page prints. Ask admissions which gate you actually drive to.
None of that tells you if your child will have a friend in week two. It does tell you this is a full campus, not a converted hôtel particulier. Ask to see an ordinary classroom and the dining room, not only the film studio.
Think in four bands. The inquire and curriculum pages do not always use the same age brackets; the structure below is the school’s own.
Early Childhood, ages 3–6. K3 through K5, then into Grade 1 on the inquire list. The curriculum page says Early Childhood is outdoor and play-based, following the Creative Curriculum, then gradually joining ASP’s standards-based framework as children approach K5. Capital assessment is not charged in K3–K5; it arrives when the child enters Grade 1.
Lower School, Grades 2–5 on the curriculum page (the inquire FAQ groups Early Childhood as K3–Grade 1 and Lower School as Grades 2–5). Reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies. American standards, international practice, the school’s words. French is daily. In Grades 1–3, the apply page says students of all English levels are accepted. From Grade 4, applicants need recent years of English-medium schooling, or a minimum on an English assessment.
Middle School, Grades 6–8. A broader American curriculum, interdisciplinary work, critical habits of mind. French every other day. Grade 6–12 applicants may sit an ASP-administered EAL assessment. EAL, if assigned, is €5,490 a year on the 2026/27 schedule.
Upper School, Grades 9–12. Every graduate earns an American High School Diploma. Beside it, students may take AP courses (the inquire page says Grades 10–12) and, in Grades 11–12, the IB Diploma. The curriculum page also allows a combination of IB and AP. That flexibility is the point. It is also why the apply page warns that IB and AP courses fill quickly once the October window opens.
The homepage names electives in entrepreneurship, film, robotics and music, and more than sixty after-school clubs. Confirm what is running this term; club lists move faster than buildings.
Instruction is in English. ASP says so three times on the inquire page, including a FAQ that begins “ASP is not a bilingual school.”
French is the host-country subject: daily in Lower School, every other day later. Ask how sets are made, and what a child who arrived in January is doing by June. Do not assume daily French in Grade 9 because it was daily in Grade 3.
EAL is the other half of the test. Younger children can arrive with little English. From Grade 4 the gate tightens. From Grade 6 an assessment may decide the support — and the bill. There is no EAL sentence on the tuition page that waives the fee for diplomats. If your child is assigned EAL, it is €5,490.
Other language pathways exist in Middle and Upper School. The official pages we fetched do not print a full menu of third languages. Ask the admissions team what is actually timetabled this year.
Applications run through OpenApply. Rolling admissions: the file is reviewed when it is complete. Decisions, the apply page says, usually go out within 15 working days.
Applications for the next academic year open in October. Mid-year places exist if a seat is free. The school tells you to apply early because many grades, and certain IB and AP courses, fill.

The file is not complete until the documents and the fee are in. If ASP cannot offer a place, the application fee is refunded in full. If they offer a place, it is not refundable — even if you walk away.
Relocating families get help with grade placement, learning support or EAL placement, curriculum transitions, transport, and first-day logistics. Use that. A Saint-Cloud campus can look like a finished story from the outside and still be the wrong Tuesday for a quiet seven-year-old.
There is no entrance examination described on the pages we fetched, beyond the English assessment where it applies. Placement is a committee decision.
These are the school’s numbers, in euros, from the official tuition page. They will move. Confirm the live page before you budget.

The capital fee is for buildings, grounds and campus. It is not refundable. A child who starts in Early Childhood pays it when they enter Grade 1.

The security fee, the school says, covers infrastructure and trained personnel after 11 September 2001 and the French Vigipirate alert. Mandatory curricular trips are inside tuition. If a trip is cancelled, the money is reallocated; there is no refund. Optional extras the page approximates: music festivals about €800 each; The Hague MUN about €1,000; Harvard Model Congress about €600; seasonal athletics about €230; ISST about €300; London theatre about €500; environmental science or Romania service about €800. Those are the school’s own “approximate” figures, not a quote.
Partial-year rules, for new and returning students, from the same page:
A first-year Grade 6, no EAL, no bus, is not “about €40,000.” It is application + capital + tuition + security — €55,615 before lunch, a late club trip, or learning support. We are not adding a cafeteria figure because the official page does not print one.
Learning support is a billed programme for documented needs: small-group or individual work, €6,695 a year, or a full-time assistant or faculty member at the figures above. The apply page says the team helps with special-programme placement. Bring the current reports to the first meeting and ask, in the room, whether ASP can staff what your child actually needs — and what that would cost in a year that is not the brochure year.
EAL is separate. Do not conflate the two invoices.
Three pieces of paper can sit on the same timetable.
The American High School Diploma is the one every graduate receives. It is the portable US-style leaving certificate, with college counseling toward the US, UK, Europe, Canada and Asia. The inquire page names Ivy League and Russell Group among destinations. That is the school talking about itself.
AP courses are college-level classes with May exams. They can sit beside the diploma, and sometimes beside IB.
The IB Diploma is the two-year programme in Grades 11–12: six subjects, three higher and three standard, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and CAS. Some students combine IB and AP. Ask the counselor what this child’s package can actually hold.
We are not publishing an IB average because the official pages we fetched did not print one for the current class.
Ask where a January arrival sits at lunch in week one. Ask how French is grouped, and whether “daily” in Grade 3 is still daily in Grade 7 (it is not). Ask whether this child would be assigned EAL, and what that costs. Ask how many Grade 11s are on the full IB Diploma versus AP-only versus a mix. Ask which bus zone your street is. Ask what happens if you withdraw after 1 June (half the year is already gone). Ask to see Grade 4 and Grade 9, not only the forest edge.
If you might later want a French national path, ask that question twice. The school has already told you it is not a bilingual school.
We are not saying ASP is the best school in Paris. We are not guessing a waitlist. We are not inventing a 2027/28 fee or a canteen price. We are not treating a homepage sentence about Ivy League as your child’s forecast.
Read the current tuition page and write to admissions before you resign a flat in another country. This is a map. The school still has to be the right Tuesday.
