Skagerak, a coastal IB house in Sandefjord, not Bekkestua

Norway’s only full-continuum IB school, the homepage says, sits on the waterfront in Sandefjord, not in Oslo. The 2026 tables print spring kroner and monthly instalments. A new fee arrives on 1 January 2027. Time Framnes, not Bekkestua.

Skagerak International School is a co-educational day school at Framnesveien 7, 3222 Sandefjord, on the waterfront at Framnes, plus a Tønsberg site at Baglergaten 16. Official site skagerak.org. The history page says Elisabeth Norr led the founding of Skagerak Gymnas in 1991 in revamped shipbuilding premises on that same Framnesveien address. Switchboard +47 33 45 65 00. It is not Oslo International School in Bekkestua, not Birralee in Trondheim, and not the UWC at Flekke. Sandefjord is a coastal Tuesday, about one and a half hours from Oslo and 20 minutes from Torp, the location page says. Time the number 03 bus to Framnes before you treat it as a capital commute.

The homepage calls it Norway’s only full continuum International Baccalaureate school. Tønsberg Primary says it became Norway’s first authorised PYP school in June 2006. Tønsberg Middle says it has been an MYP candidate since November 2022 — a candidate sentence, not a second authorised continuum. High school is the IB Diploma. We will not flatten two towns into one IB stamp.

The useful questions are: Do you want an English IB week under friskolelova, with kroner the Ministry already caps? Is this child on Framnesveien or Baglergaten? And have you read the spring 2026 table, because the school does not print a tidy August-to-June total?

Who it is for

Families who want an IB path on the Vestfold coast, with a state-supported parental fee, and who can live with a calendar-year bill that changes on 1 January.

The high-school admission policy says the school is open to students who meet the requirements to enter state schools in Norway under § 3-1 of the Education Act and who have successfully completed 11 years — Vg1 studieforberedende, a foundation year / Year 11, the IB MYP, or an equivalent. The Diploma, it says, is for ages 16–19. We will not invent a CAT4 cutoff.

It will not suit a family hunting a municipal grunnskole only, an Oslo posting, or a boarding college in a fjord. Walk those doors if that is the climate.

The campus you can actually picture

Framnesveien 7 overlooks Sandefjord harbour. The location page times Torp at 20 minutes and the Strömstad ferry as a stone’s throw. Students can take the train to Sandefjord and the 03 Framnes/Buer bus.

Baglergaten 16 in Tønsberg is another official gate. Primary there is PYP. Middle there is MYP candidate. Ask which town this child would actually stand in.

It is a day school. There is no boarding house.

How a child actually gets in

The homepage says applications for 2026–27 are open. High school prints a deadline of 1 March 2026 for that school year. Primary and middle invite a meeting with the principal or IB coordinator. Write admissions. We will not invent a waitlist.

Money, as the 2026 fee pages print it

These are calendar-year tables, updated 16 December 2025 (kindergarten December 2025). Autumn 2026, the school says, uses the same lines. A new structure comes into effect on 1 January 2027. We will not invent an annual total the pages do not add up.

Primary, middle and high school share a non-refundable signing fee of NOK 1,800 after the contract. The remaining balance can be paid in full or in eight instalments — January, February, March, April, September, October, November, December — due the 15th. High school says international students must pay the tuition fee in full upfront. The page does not print that international figure. We will not invent it.

The school is approved by Lånekassen. Students can apply for borteboerstipend if they meet the requirements, the high-school page says, and for a loan toward fees. Confirm with Lånekassen, not with us.

What we are not claiming

We are not ranking Skagerak against OIS or Birralee. We are not calling Tønsberg’s MYP candidate an authorised continuum. We are not turning four spring months into a year. We are not inventing the 2027 line.

Stairs questions

Ask which gate — Framnesveien or Baglergaten. Ask whether this family is entitled to the state-support high-school line, or must pay the unpublished international total upfront. Ask what the 1 January 2027 notice actually changes. Time the 03 bus in January.
